Extra depth fitted sheets are common, due to all the pillow-top mattresses

@IrelandTorin
The fact that non “neurotypical” phenotypes are extremely common demonstrates that we have not survived by the absolute strongest eliminating competition. We’ve thrived because we can cooperate in ways that allow us to take advantage of traits that are disadvantageous enough to be called “disorders” (by those neurotypical people with their obsessive need for conformity) but which allow different problems to be solved in different ways by different brains.

@BlueStateBabe
Cleaning supplies the kids shouldn’t get into, and things responsible grown ups ought to use if they ever had time, like silver polish and floor wax.

@Indefinite_Article
Up North, “you guys” is gender neutral. It’s culture shock to find out Southern women consider it male-only.

@Obstreperous_Kitteh @corlin
And you will find that we will have trouble coming to unity on a $25 minor decision, but for a commitment of hundreds of dollars in support of disaster relief, not only do we come to unity quickly, everyone will have the same dollar amount in mind.

@Obstreperous_Kitteh @corlin
That’s the way unprogrammed Quaker meetings make decisions, since there is no minister, and since voting creates winners and losers that can fracture the community. Getting mundane things done can be slow, and we make liberal use of committees which can come to a decision and report to the full meeting for final approval. Our belief is that these meetings are a form of worship, of being open to spiritual guidance.

Plus it wasn’t unusual for travelers to die and get buried in whatever graveyard or field was handy once the ground thawed. They might not have been carrying any identification at all and been anonymous burials

@spacesloth @AlphaCentauri @redenigma
So true about the records. Our Quaker meeting has a burying ground. Quakers weren’t big on headstones, but they are ALL about keeping records. But the records we have are pretty scanty for many burials. They probably seemed sufficient at the time, but the context for who those families were is hard to reconstruct.

@WhiteRose
Ethnic religions are far older than the proselytized religions like Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. They speak to our DNA’s drive to promote the survival of those who are most likely to share genetic makeup.

You can tell people that we are all one people, but they will intuitively go back to nationalism unless continuously called out on it by leaders they respect.

@Museek
Disney’s Mary Poppins and the Eddie Murphy Dr Doolittle cut out a some embarrassingly racist sections in the original books

@Museek
Some say the best movie adaptations are from books that fell short of their potential. Bridges on Madison County gets mentioned but I haven't seen or read either.

Sometimes good movies bear little resemblance to the original, like The Little Mermaid, or make major changes that address concerns of an audience living in another time/place, like Pygmalion/My Fair Lady.

"those 2 fast food workers did a really crappy job, the line of cars was around the whole building! They should have more staff"

"Why don't you get a job there and do it better?"

"I'm not taking such a low paying job."

"You ran face first into it and still don't see the problem...."

@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine
Kids do have some innate fears. Around 8-10 months they suddenly start fearing strangers, for instance. They may also fear moving things like animals. Their parents’ reactions can help them move past that.

@tracytran
I don’t trust Zoom either. Any company with a significant presence in PRC could be pressured to collect data or monitor communications of foreigners of interest. We need free alternatives.
