For all you jazz musicians out there: a history of The Real Book.
I should have posted this a week ago. This is an album that affected me deeply. Enjoy.

Every Noise at Once
Every Noise at Once is an ongoing attempt at an algorithmically-generated, readability-adjusted scatter-plot of the musical genre-space, based on data tracked and analyzed for 5,304 genre-shaped distinctions by Spotify as of 2021-03-30. The calibration is fuzzy, but in general down is more organic, up is more mechanical and electric; left is denser and more atmospheric, right is spikier and bouncier.

Hit songwriters ask pop stars to stop taking credit for songs they didn't write - BBC News
In an open letter, the writers behind songs like Dua Lipa's New Rules and Ariana Grande's 7 Rings said "a growing number of artists" were demanding a share of publishing royalties, even if they had contributed nothing to a song.
If you don't think the opening movement of this piece is straight-up badass, then we can't be friends.
Johann Sebastian Bach: St. John Passion BWV 245
Bach Collegium Japan, Masaaki Suzuki
Here is one of the most brilliant, evocative, and at times sonically brutal pieces ever written. If you don't know it already, prepare yourself.
Side note: I need to not listen to this piece while highway driving. It induces aggression.
Igor Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring (1913)
New York Philharmonic Orchestra (1958) conducted by Leonard Bernstein

Musicians are in peril, at the mercy of giant monopolies that profit off their work.
"The music industry was once sprawling enough to accommodate a wide spectrum of artists. But artists today are beset on all sides by monopolists and oligopolists. Like so many sectors of our economy, government inaction has allowed the music business to consolidate, with devastating effects on musicians."

Advertisers keep on using Der Hölle Rache in their commercials...
How much work would it take to look up a translation of it, ask a person who knows anything about opera, or any German speaker? 🤬

Want a really good singing bowl at a rock bottom price?
This just arrived today. I bought it as a teaching / attention focus tool. To my pleasant surprise, it sounds fantastic and it is very easy to get a powerful sustain with the included ringer. Mine is a pure 721 Hz, a high F#.

I am in Zoom choir practice with the community choir I sing with right now.
As a choir director myself, I try to keep an open mind with our director's ideas, but this one thing consistently bugs me.
He always has us close on final voiced consonants at phrase endings. This drives me nuts because it's nearly impossible for the ensemble to release cleanly.
Shadow vowels are The Way to do this properly, and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.
That is all.
