Advertisers keep on using Der Hölle Rache in their commercials...

How much work would it take to look up a translation of it, ask a person who knows anything about opera, or any German speaker? 🤬

For those who don't know what I'm talking about...

Diana Damrau is phenomenal here. Turn on subtitles if you don't speak German.

@sentientdessert
Oh yeah. At least that one isn't about getting revenge by forcing your daughter to murder a priest.

@voltronic True... though... that should be used more in adverts for the Catholic Church. Especially around Boston... >.>

@voltronic

More work than assuming most people got their entire knowledge of classical music from Bugs Bunny just like they did, I expect.

@misterfive
I got a good deal of my classical music knowledge from Bugs Bunny, actually.

@voltronic

I did too. Many, many people did. And many took it further. But I do wonder if those advertisers just think "Sounds good, sounds familiar, let's use it" and just leave it there.

@misterfive
I think that's exactly what happened. It's also a brisk tempo, in a major key, and sung by a coloratura soprano so people assume it's light and cheerful. In reality, those things are being used to show the Queen's batshit unhinged rage and paranoia.

@damselfly59
Yeah, she OWNS this role in every respect, and this aria especially. I've never heard anyone else do it better.

@voltronic
Thanks for sharing. I sat for a few minutes just being overwhelmed.
Miss the big city for live opera.
