Guitarists: you're going to want to see this.
Jacob Collier demonstrates his custom 5-string acoustic and electric guitars and his unusual approach to the instrument.
This is HUGE!!!
#musictheory and #musicproduction nerds, start your engines: Ableton has created another interactive educational site, this one on tuning systems. It has widgets where you can edit the code directly in the browser to create sequences in any existing tuning or your own custom one, and export to a Live set. I've only just gone through the site once, and I'm blown away.
Double accidentals shouldn't exist anymore. They were a dumb idea in the first place.

Another plainchant from the Codex Astlensis Ricardus has just been discovered.
I found this years ago and just rediscovered it. SO awesome.
A pipe organ tribute to Michael Jackson performed at Trinity Church Wall Street, NYC. You'll hear a few different themes, but I especially like the fugue on 'ABC'.

Also gets #cosoclassical and #musictheory tags because of the compositional techniques used.
I did a little investigation tonight involving playing with an excellent free Oberheim synth plug-in I found. Learned some interesting things. Thread and results here:
I don't know how many Van Halen fans have ever seen this video, but it has bothered me for years that the poster of this video and all the people in the comments assumed Eddie was out of tune, when in reality the synth part is playing in (almost) C-sharp Major while Eddie and Wolfgang are correctly playing in C Major.
I believe they used a recorded synth part, and there was a sample rate mismatch somewhere in the chain which could cause this.
Here is a modern version of a Mensuration Canon, where the same melody is played simultaneously at different speeds by augmenting or diminishing note values proportionally. In this case, many different rates at the same time. Otherwise, it's just a descending a natural minor scale, played on alternating short and long note values.

At choir practice tonight, and we're singing the King's Singers arrangement of Lullabye by Billy Joel.
I've sung this before, but how did I never catch the egregious counterpoint violations in the last measure here?
Doubled 7th on chord, while moving in parallel octaves‽
Shame on your game.

This is a GREAT #musictheory game!
Solfege Sally - Like Simon but with Solfege. There is no button flashing, so you have to actually audiate the scale degrees in order to get it right. Options for Do and La based minor with different minor scales. Try it out!

Also, check out the rest of the site for great theory lessons. It's going on my pinned post.

I'm working on the piano part for What Good Would The Moon Be from "Street Scene" by Kurt Weill.
This thing is a jazzy love letter to the augmented triad.
Well, our intrepid AI assistant isn't ready to help with collegiate-level #musictheory but I'm wondering if any #cosomusicians here can give the correct answer.
