IN SEARCH OF CLOSER MISSES

Morning Close Missers,

Ken-Dogger: Hey Duffer, you look tired?
Duffer: KD, this driving is taxing.
KD: IKR, and I’m out here trying to hit a hole.
D: It looks easy on TV, why are you struggling?
KD: Well, those Pros on TV don’t show you their struggles.
D: They miss putts just like you do consistently.
KD: Steady…But their misses are closer.
D: So that’s what practice does, gives us closer misses.
KD: Sometimes Duffer, that’s all you get.

CREATING A NEW CONFEDERACY RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES

Despite facing backlash from civil rights activists and Democratic lawmakers, Republicans in conservative-leaning Nassau County, New York, are moving forward with a plan to form an armed, civilian militia that the local government could operate as a de facto police force during “emergencies.”

On this date in 1979 - Idi Amin was deposed as president of Uganda as rebels and exiles backed by Tanzanian forces seized control.

Bun Man and Mr. Purple, Amin's Chief of Staff and Minister of Defense, packed their bags and headed to their next gig.

Bun said to Purple "Idi did get a little over the top right about the time he started going 'commando' everyday."

Purple replied "Da DaDa Da, Da DaDa Da."

ON this date in 1947 - Jackie Robinson became the first black player in major-league history.

He played in an exhibition game for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

NY Times reporters Bun Man and Mr. Purple covered the game and the post-game press conference.

They came away thoroughly impressed w/ Mr. Robinson.

#42 would go on to become a legend; his endurance of fan abuse was epic, but Jackie knew why he was there and what he was doing for his race, and he played that card well.

Do patent leather shoes really reflect up?

Remembering Junie B. Jones and her shoes.... Pat and Leather

Mr. Purple reminded us "The sixties, when you dressed weird because everybody was weird..."

Bun Man countered "Not me, man, I dressed cool..."

Mr. P replied "Sure you did Bun, sure you did...still have that vest w/ the long tassels?

Looked cool on a rock star, not so much on an audience member..."

ON this date in 1966 - NBC broadcasted the last episode of "Hullabaloo."

Reruns were aired through August 29.

The Boyz and I well remember this show and 'Shindig', the other 'rock' show from the sixties.

Bun Man always said his highlight was watching those Hullabaloo dancers in their mini-skirts and white plastic boots.

"we buttressed the wall as it was showing signs of cracking and collapse"

increase the strength of or justification for; reinforce:
"authority was buttressed by religious belief"

We are buttressed because we look for ways to support, not obstruct.

My wife asked me about her buttress, I told her she looked fine.

The reason for the comically large number of cicadas soon to torment your children is that two different broods are emerging at the same time, which hasn’t happened since 1803 and won’t happen again for another 221 years. On the bright side, cicadas don’t bite, sting, or carry diseases, so they are more annoying than dangerous.

J Man, your answer

Stat: A billion cicadas isn’t cool. You know what’s cool? A trillion cicadas. You’ll soon find out just how cool, since that is about how many of the inch-long flying freaks will emerge from their underground hideouts in the Midwest and Southeast this May. If you were to line all those cicadas up, they would reach the moon and back 33 times, a Smithsonian bug expert told the New York Times.
