@piquant00 Not a big Oprah fan myself, nor a Clinton fan, nor whoever else they got -- but anyone who helps keep the pathological liar out of the White House is OK in my book.
@DavidSalo Some peoples have seen it differently.
In Balinese tradition the corpse is buried in a simple shroud for a few years, then exhumed and burned with costly ceremony in an elaborate sarcophagus. The ashes are dumped into the sea. The idea is to cleanse the soul of worldly taints (including possessions) so it may ascend more easily to the next world.
Similarly, many California Indian tribes customarily burned the deceased's house and possessions, to encourage the ghost to move on.
@mkagle I like Chuck Tingle's take on it:
...conservatism is so dang weird. goofballs thinkin ‘progress is done it has been evolving culturally from start of human history and now i have decided THIS is the best stopping point.’ WHAT BUD? HECKIN WHY? what a coincidence youre alive at the perfect stop
... THERES LITERALLY INFINITE TIME AHEAD OF US TO UNDERSTAND OURSELVES and conservatives just trot like ‘no im good this seems like the perfect spot we just like school shootings and hate crime’
@gemswinc Thanks for letting us know. In the meantime, if we just want to get it done NOW, Voter registration can be done everyday using the following link. You can also use the link to check your voter registration status.
@CJShaneArtBooks Harris/Walz will probably win -- but that's what we thought about Clinton/Kaine in 2016.
With MAGA manipulation of the voting process already happening (registrations cancelled in Georgia and Arkansas) and MAGA election officials threatening to refuse certification of results they don't like, we can't be satisfied with winning -- we have to win in an undeniable landslide.
Plus there are the downballot races. The GOP is poised to hold the House and retake the Senate.
"...plaintiffs had argued that the rule would force schools to allow transgender students to use restrooms and locker rooms..."
The thing is, when trans kids try to use their assigned-at-birth gender's restroom, they get beat up.
"... and [force] faculty to use transgender students' pronouns, that correspond to their gender identities."
So when a student declares their preferred pronoun is "he," a professor has to respect that? The horror!

@Museek In a possibly related change, ivermectin ads on Drumpf's TruthSocial site have shifted their focus from COVID to cancer. Maybe Magadonians are catching on, or dying off. It's equally effective against both; might as well go for the bigger market.
@redenigma I steamed mine, else it would have been a species of Anadama bread.
I got curious about "thirded breads" and now can talk anyone's ear off about them. As a descendant of at least three generations of thrifty and often poor people, I'm fascinated by them.
@redenigma One site I saw years ago said thrifty 17th-century New England housewives, lacking fancy loaf pans, used old coffee cans. Not sure where they got coffee cans back when coffee was sold in sacks -- if you could find it at all in 17th-century New England. But it was on the Internet so it must have been true.
I used cans some years ago without much difficulty. Lining them with foil would probably take care of the ridges, though it'd be a chore.
@mcfate Jesus, you even argue with people who agree with you.
@mcfate QED. He's the classic guy who reads the cover of the Cliffs Notes and thinks he needn't bother reading the book.
@mcfate Maybe, but he dodges questions about the Bible too, and I doubt he knows anything about that.
@mcfate To say Donolf was "doing politics" gives him too much credit. He has no idea what's in Project 2025, he just says what he thinks will sell.
@LiberalLibrarian I think it's intentional, to get clicks. Not that I overestimate the dismal spelling skills of graphic artists -- I love and respect you, guys, but your spelling for the most part sucks -- but this is actually a pretty rare misspelling, AFAIK.
Few of the clicks from those of us who just want to scold them for their illiteracy will translate into sales -- but maybe on a certain level clicks is clicks.
@LiberalLibrarian You don't think we need a Department of Crackpot Theories? Or was Junior angling for a job with Fish and Wildlife?
Highlight of three days camping in Dosewallips State Park: a herd of elk slowly rambling in to graze, one by one settling down to chew their cud, almost within spitting distance. An 11-year-old girl there with us was afraid they would charge, and to be fair I wouldn't want to tangle with anything that big with hooves and antlers -- but after repeatedly moving to go she settled down and watched them, charmed. There were mares, young bucks, an 8-point stag, and a couple of nursings.

@sfleetucker ōlēo. So "Ōlēo ergo decipo" might work. But ōlēo is aesthetically neutral, more "smell" than "stink."
@sfleetucker Your translator is misleading you. "olet" is 3rd person. "i olet would be "i smells".
