@sfleetucker Puteo ergo decipo?
"Puteo," "I stink," is similar to "puto," "I think," so there's kind of a rhyme-once-removed there.
@mcfate Not even talking about Cheetolini's bizarre rant. I'm talking about prose style in stuff directed at folks who know the candidate by either or both names.
And sure, names are only part of the mix, but they count. I think it was Will Cuppy who joked that Eisenhower won because "I like Ike" made a better slogan than "I adore Adlai." It's a joke, but it points at a real factor in the election: getting voters to see Eisenhower as a regular guy, Stevenson as an egghead.
@mcfate Fair enough. But I'm talking about marketing--what identifies a candidate memorably and sounds both serious and approachable? Eisenhower's people went with "Ike," Geraldine Ferraro's with her last name, Hillary Clinton's about half-and-half, IIRC. Both Obama's and Trump's people soft-pedal their first names.
"Kamala" is a great name -- more distinctive than "Harris," slightly unusual but easy to pronounce, perfect for marketing.
@mcfate A co-editor and I are at odds over the use of ”Kamala." She says women in politics are always referred to by their first names, men by their last, it's annoying. I'm like, that's true and it's a bad thing, but let's put her in the White House by whatever name works best right now, and THEN work on the sexist first/last names thing.
@Museek The insta pot should not be able to shock you at all. Is it damaged, or is it not properly grounded?
@mcfate I wish the good Kamerade much success.
@keyrocco They *want us to think* they have cuglione.
BREAKING: U.S. Hits 1 Million Daily COVID-19 Infections
Recent wastewater surveillance data indicates that daily COVID-19 infections in the U.S. have soared to 1 million.
In light of this surge, individuals in areas with newly implemented mask bans are urged to use exemption letters to continue wearing masks.
Masking remains crucial as repeated infections heighten the risk of severe outcomes, including Long COVID, and is especially important for those with medical vulnerabilities.
@Kittiekatt53 @JV3MJD Seems legit, though at two days old not exactly "breaking."

@hallmarc Yes, WA is all vote by mail or drop box. Paper ballots, top-two primaries -- I half expected the primary to result in two Dems duking it out for governor, shows how little I know.
That's interesting math for the WAGAts. They've never had a prayer of delivering WA for Trump, but they might, maybe, vote in a GOP governor, *if* they can bring themselves to vote for a guy who didn't kiss Donold's ring. But that's a big "if", so they'll probably just whine and make vain threats.
@DavidSalo I don't know if Dave Reichert qualifies as a Republican centrist, but he wasn't MAGA enough for the Washington state GOP -- Trump didn't endorse him, he said zip about Trump -- so they got behind a MAGA clown, and in yesterday's primary Reichert crushed that clown 3 to 1.
WA looks blue from a distance, but most of its counties vote red -- but maybe not all that red.
"The sole manufacturer of the pesticide, AMVAC, had sought to avoid the emergency action. The company had voluntarily pulled all DCPA products used on turf, reducing the risks to golfers, athletes and workers who maintain turf fields."
Apparently farmworkers didn't factor as strongly as golfers and course personnel in AMVAC's risk/benefit calculations.
A fiddle teacher at the Cascadia Irish music workshop last week mentioned that while his adult students learn tunes more easily in chunks of 2-4 measures, his kids have no need for (or patience with) that. They want the whole tune at once.
I think what's behind that is that adults are so used to having things in logical patterns they get so they can't absorb things any other way, while children have to deal with heaps of apparently arbitrary events all the time, so they're used to it.
Color me surprised: we might actually get a two-party contest for governor in November. I didn't think Republican Dave Reichert had a chance, shows what I know.
I'm glad (I think), because a moderate Democrat would be harder for Bob Ferguson to beat (I think). Also because the moderate Dem that Ferguson might face is, IMHO, just a Libertarian masquerading as a Dem. Also, if a not-so-MAGA Repub wins in the primary, maybe the WA GOP will get a clue. (*Maybe.*)

@CelluloidBlonde Getting a bit old, that one. I saw it on a pickup truck two or threw years ago.
@mcfate Let's throw it in his face at every opportunity.
@bluesbaby "Coupsolini" I got from @mcfate.
My favorite monikers for him are Drumpf (the original family name), Cheetolini, Donold, and Donolf (suggested by autocorrect, believe it or not).
Of course it's uncivil and unforgivably juvenile to saddle people with insulting nicknames. But he started it!
@bluesbaby @mcfate Harris has everything to gain by keeping us hanging on her choice of VP -- it's free publicity and bolsters her perceived viability (does anyone know or care about RFK Jr's running mate?).
Along with regretting picking VD Pance in the first place, Coupsolini must be wishing he'd thought of a way to string out the process himself.
@mcfate Per Wikipedia, the strategy aims at "the creation of a system of guaranteed minimum income and 'redistributing income through the federal government'."
Sounds good to me!
