All I can think of with the "Threads" feeding frenzy and millions downloading the app...

1) You remember this is Facebook? Their apps gather ALL THE DATA. And sell it.

2) Maybe people DO have the memory of a goldfish? The "no, we're META now, forget all those bad things the other name did" worked?

3) Their interest in the "Fediverse" has nothing to do with interaction, only assimilation. Those who think it'll make a "bigger decentralized system" are naive and gullible. It's FACEBOOK!

I made a reference sheet that links to privacy policies for various social networks. The next time someone asks if their privacy is being protected by a certain network or app, you can point them here.

rentry.co/socialnetworkprivacy

has a very long list of requested app permissions. Screenshot below from Play store.

If you install this, you're opening yourself up to a lot of invasive data mining. Still think it's a good idea?

Bluesky : Nope.
Threads :Nope.
Mastodon : Must be joking.
Spoutible : Fuck no.
CoSo : All day long.
I know where my info is safe and protected.

I've been trying to single-pin pick my first American 1100 padlock, and it keeps defeating me. Today I disassembled it to see what I'm dealing with.

I don't feel quite so bad now. I knew there were security pins, but damn. Drivers are three serrated spools, two deeply serrated standard. Then there's three serrated key pins. No wonder the feedback is confusing. I think I'm going to have to progressive pin this to get the feel of just a couple pins at a time.

Apparently posting resources that show someone's preferred news outlets may be heavily biased gets you blocked nowadays. Le sigh.

:

When you arrive at and want to make a bold first impression, try not to make that impression an iffy one.

Starting out with aggressive or passive-aggressive posts about people or in efforts to announce how [thing] you are may backfire and just get you Blocks or possibly reported, depending on how aggressive you are.

CoSo is comparatively chill when side-by-sided with most other social media platforms. So you don't have to post up extra hard.

New Best Practices Proposals:

1. Do not post links to in light of their new policies. Use screenshots or thread reposting sites (as long as they still work).

2. Do not post paywalled links. Either generate a "gift" link if you are a subscriber to the site, or use one of the sites below to link an archived / cached version of the content.

3. Credit creators of all you post whenever possible.

What is your opinion of independent/private fireworks usage?

To be clear, I am not talking about professional fireworks displays. I consider those works of art.

What is your opinion of independent/private fireworks usage?

People in my neighborhood are setting off the loudest non-commercial fireworks I've ever heard. I don't know if M80s are still a thing, but I know my dogs are not loving it at all. 🤬

You watched Apocalypse Now and thought you knew...

My dogs live it every 4th of July. 🎆

These are the only fireworks I need today. 🇺🇲

Good morning CoSo.

And Happy Birthday to our our gracious host, @th3j35t3r!

Pro tip for new people:

Add profile and header images and say something on your profile header. Many more people will be inclined to believe you are a real person and want to interact with you.
