Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki has passed. 🕯️
Do you like Beethoven? Especially when he combines choir and solo singers with orchestra, like the last movement of the 9th symphony? Then you'll love this.

I need to get something off my chest.
Would all of these "inspirational" videos of musicians COMING TOGETHER IN HARMONY through the POWER OF MUSIC do it with something besides BEETHOVEN'S ODE TO FUCKING JOY?!?!??!
I have nothing against Beethoven's 9th, but there is SO MUCH amazing music out there. Recycling the same few "hits" reduces "classical" music to predictable memes. It dumbs things down for the audience instead, of expanding their knowledge and experience.
I posted some of these before, but there are now more organizations doing this.

It's not often something people forward me makes me _literally_ LOL, but this did it.
My choir is performing this in a few days on a concert that will benefit the homeless living in the inner city.
It was first written for the victims of the 2004 Tsunami in Indonesia, originally a vocal duet and now a popular choral arrangement.
Its beauty is in its simplicity and pure emotion.

Thinking about all of our friends in Italy right now. I know of no better piece of music to pay tribute; their "unofficial" national anthem.

If you are not familiar with the choral music of Elaine Hagenburg, you owe it to yourself to listen. I just helped out at a choral festival where this absolutely stunning work was performed.
"Music of Stillness" by Elaine Hagenberg
Poem by Sara Teasdale
Performed by Oxford Singers
Conducted by Bob Chilcott
Enjoy this moment of pure beauty from Handel's first oratorio.
George Friedrich Handel - "Tu del Ciel ministro eletto" (You, elected minister of Heaven)
from Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno (The Triumph of Time and of Dissolution)
Julia Lezhneva, Dmitry Sinkovsky
Il Giardino Armonico, Giovanni Antonini
Another concert today. This is a beautiful acoustic for a chamber choir, a pleasure to sing in.

Concert night. Come to me, my pretty.
I may just be accompanying student orchestras for this one, but any opportunity to play this magnificent instrument is worth it.
