When people ask “why didn’t they evacuate?” please consider that many folks don’t have cars, have no relatives or friends they can stay with, can’t afford gasoline, tolls, or hotels, don’t dare leave and risk losing their jobs because they can’t return in time, can’t safely evacuate their elderly loved ones, won’t leave without their pets, or they have legitimate health concerns about staying in shelters. Poor shaming them in the midst of a catastrophe is not a good look.

As our enemies - foreign and domestic - eagerly shred the fabric of America, I believe that there are still threads that bind us together. I’ve had the good fortune to have traveled to 45 of the 50 states in my personal and professional life. From interstates to dirt roads, deserts to swamplands, mountains to beaches, farmlands to factories. I’ve walked in volcano-fresh lava in Hawaii, eaten ocean-fresh lobsters in Maine; swum with dolphins in the Florida Keys…

Here they are, decorated and awaiting packaging to begin their journey north tomorrow.

Another six dozen plus gingerbread cookies baked this morning, cooling before being decorated. Most will be shipped to my 99-year-old mother in Massachusetts and other family members. They’re baked from my grandmother’s recipe and are now feeding four subsequent generations.

This Mother's Day is strange, as my mother passed away nearly two months ago. Her loving and wise spirit continues to live on through me.

Sweet soul's wisdom blooms,
Her legacy breathes in me,
In my heart, she lives.

Some holidays expose hurts in a particularly poignant way, and Mother’s Day is one of them.

It’s a day of gratitude and also grief—for the mothers we’ve lost or maybe never had, or from whom estrangement prevails

for the moms grieving children who have passed or succumbed to the world in ways that hurt the heart

for moms who have been marginalized

for those who yearned for motherhood and ache around that wish

Send out extra love to folks feeling any sting today. Have care, be kind 💜

Sending hugs to all the folks for whom evokes sorrow, grief, frustration, or longing. You are not alone out there.

People with money will always send their children to the schools where they can get a good education; those without money? The brightest of their children will thrive and be able to break through and get the scholarships. But most won't.
And that is how you shrink the middle class and expand the permanent uneducated, underclass.

If we want to have an educated population, we have to stop the dismantling of the public education system. This has been a long-term strategy from the right, over the last 3 decades, and it is finally bearing fruit for them. From grade school through college, the public schools have been slowly undercut and underfunded, privatized and demonized.
Why? It goes beyond the profit motive: It's a consolidation of power, because knowledge is power.

I could have sworn I saw someone here post about a potential for another display in a few days because another CME happened on the sun in the last 24 hours or so and it takes a couple of days to get here.

I can't find it, does anyone know what I'm talking about or did I fever dream that information?

Can we feel this calm?

I spent the last three years of my Career working in the largest Jewish Continuing Care Retirement Community in The United States.
I made a lot of friends and we all laughed and cried together.

Question of the Day: Who would be the most interesting person to be stuck in an elevator with?

@cassandra17lina @GrazingintheGrass Yeah, nothing like driving on sunshine.

I like how the car coordinates with the solar system to charge only on excess solar not needed for house or to charge the house battery. Else it would be sold to the utility for a pittance.

@cassandra17lina Nice graphic. I’ve been driving electric for over 7 years & now can say they are WAY cheaper the ICE cars I’ve owned. Been using battery electric lawn mower, leaf blower, drills, etc for just as long - really appreciate not handling gasoline anymore, not visiting gas stations, etc But hey, to each their own.
