Soundgarden's 1988 debut album Ultramega OK is usually overlooked but was quite a pioneering force in shaping the grunge sound that would explode a few years later. Blending elements of churning metal riffs, a punk ethos, and psychedelia the album showcased Chris Cornell's raw, aggressive vocals and Kim Thayil's innovative guitar work influencing the emerging Seattle music scene.

Endsong has to be my fave Cure song right now. That 6 minute intro ... man they sound amazing. And Robert Smith's voice does not age.

Besides metal & whisky, my other main interest is #RenewableEnergy, particularly offshore wind. My region of Canada is just beginning to develop this industry. My latest blog post looks at the recent draft Regional Assessment Report on Nova Scotia's Offshore Wind development. I examine the challenges and opportunities facing the emerging industry in Nova Scotia, including regulatory hurdles, consultation, and environmental considerations.

These two are pretty much my annual Halloween playlist while handing out treats. Slow, spooky, and heavy doom vibes for the kids.
Love seeing these ships as part of my morning commute across Halifax Harbour. This is the Boskalis semi-submersible heavy load carrier White Marlin with an offshore substation platform likely destined for an offshore wind project in the US.
Fun night at the Woodside Tavern. Both Fluke and The Orchids had some high energy sets.
End of the season. We put our camper away for winter storage today. Didn't get to use it as much this year but we had a lot of fun with it.
On this cool gloomy Friday, I'm revisiting a 2015 gem from Argentina's Downfall of Nur - That triumphant guitar at the 14 minute mark in track II - The Golden Age always gets me.
