Irony. The guy who sent me the Thomas Sowell quote about government spending and who was also saying most rich people are nice was with me in an online Bible study today about the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man. 🤣
@holon42 He seemed quieter than normal when it came to the actual discussion.
@poemblaze @holon42 It sounds like it made him think. Hopefully that will lead to good things.
@danielbsmith @holon42 I hope so.
if more actually spent time reading the NT, instead of getting lost in the wars, etc of the OT for their opinions, it might lead to some thinking perhaps.
@holon42 One would think so, but humans are masterful at willfully misreading any text that is uncomfortable. Myself included.
yes, it's all too human, for sure.
and many texts do have innumerable meanings, that's language.
@holon42 “Love your neighbor as yourself” is pretty clear, but we all fail at that one one time or another. Some more consistently than others.
yes, without the requisite metanoia, the "loving kindness" too often becomes inauthentic, pushy, and judgmental.
@holon42 Yes. I need to never forget where I’ve been, what I’ve done. Not live in it, but remember. I’m definitely not a superior enlightened being.
@poemblaze @holon42 Eh. We're all works in progress. Enlightenment is a journey.
exactly 👌🏽
@AskTheDevil It was part of a thread. Needs full context. @holon42
@AskTheDevil @holon42 And yes, we all need some emotional/spiritual work.
@AskTheDevil @holon42 A journey like Lord of the Rings.
@holon42 Perhaps I should say “some more obviously than others.”
@holon42 @poemblaze Both are instructive. People should read both but they tend to cherry pick and ignore what they don't want to hear wherever it is found.
that too, yes, a favourite of those preachers of hatred.
@danielbsmith All the time. Like a visit to a buffet. @holon42
@holon42 But reading is the start. There’s no chance of a lightbulb moment before that.
@poemblaze
how did it go? did he feel the 🔥?
