For the past couple of weeks, my only "outside" time has been going to my apartment building's back stairs and looking out over the neighbors' back yards while I drink my morning coffee. Finally ventured out onto my street today...only to encounter tons of people without masks...noped right back home again!

(I think I am gonna post this daily)

A modest proposal:

Let us start a new hashtag,

Let this be a place where anyone can ask for help.
Without judgement, or shame.

A place where anyone can offer help, or experience.

Let this be a place free of blame, fear, or feeling less-than.

Let this be where we offer our knowledge, know how, and wisdom.

If you need, ask here.
If you have, please give of it freely.

Update: Like almost everyone else, HiRISE operations have mostly transitioned to a working remotely scenario. Fortunately, we have been set up to do that for a long time. The University of Arizona has also switched to online classes for the rest of the semester.

And happily, we are committed to continue to pay our student employees even if they can't come in to work.

Take care down there!

My county (Alameda County in the Bay Area) has officially instituted an Italy-style shelter in place policy for the next 3 weeks: acphd.org/2019-ncov.aspx

I've heard a lot of people comparing their preparations to getting ready for a hurricane, but for that, you can at least (theoretically) flee. This feels more like preparing for a siege - something I've never experienced, which in turn brings home to me just how privileged my life has been thus far

Welp, my local supermarket fell victim to the toilet paper hordes last night apparently

Saw a few empty shelves at my local supermarket...spam and toilet paper seemed to be popular choices. I do agree that having one probably leads to needing the other!

Complex Channel Terrain

These smaller channels are curious in that they are divided into many subparallel grooves and rows of knobs compared to the deeper large channel just to the south.

Every day: There is a 1 in 1 trillion chance that a gamma ray burst from a celestial event will kill every living thing on earth.

There is a 1 in a billion chance that an asteroid will kill 9/10 of humanity.

There is a 1 in 10,000 chance you'll die in car accident this year. - 100% chance that *multiple people* will die in a car accident today.

There have been 21,000 flu deaths this year.

There have been 2,800 cases of coronavirus.

Christmas is a sad Season for some. As we begin our festivities, remember those who've lost loved ones. Remember those who are depressed. Remember the homeless. Remember those who've lost a job. Remember those who've lost a pet. Remember the hungry. Remember those with no family or friends. Remember the elderly. Remember the sick & shut in. Remember those with no heat. Remember those with no reason to celebrate. Remember all of them and more, and if you can, show them some love🤶
