If you are bugged out by the default night mode we use here on Counter.Social you can add DarkReader Extension to your browser with the link below.

Using it's "Light Mode" set your settings accordingly:
+45 brightness
+30 contrast
+50 Sepia

Here's an addition to this thread

With the following settings in DarkReader you get the results shown in last screen capture.

Keywords:
Light Mode, Dark Mode, Contrast, Dark, Screen, Brightness

@bluesbaby You can play around and adjust as you like - I just gave the default settings that @thatdosbox used.

@bluesbaby @MrGoat That is what I need. My eyes get strained . Thanks for sharing.

@MrGoat Well that did not work I cannot find a place to adjust the light and contrast in that extension but it sure does turn other sites dark so it does work in general.

@MrGoat I forget that non techies don't call light mode serial killer mode ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

@MrGoat I am on the hunt for a firefox extension, but it's a good lead!

@MrGoat On Firefox it seems I had to do one additional setting, which was clicking on Static in "More" to flip the fonts.

@hacks4pancakes yeah I just was guiding folks in the direction. Everyone will probably need to make tweaks to suit their likings.

@MrGoat
I'm a week late for the original post, gimme a minute. ๐Ÿ˜‰

@MrGoat
And to think I spent days on end obtaining the mastodon original light CSS and applying it with Stylus then tweaking it and nudging it to obtain a white theme. It was like a week of work, and it still needed tending now and then (I could still never get the lighbox effect for images to function in "light mode" for some reason).

Much simpler. Though it's hard to figure out what I need to do to make the โญ & ๐Ÿ” buttons still alter color & such.

I think I'll still have to fiddle in Stylus.

There's no need to brag

How about I just say thanks for the tip & you just say โ€œYou're Welcome, Bishโ€

@researchbuzz @MrGoat Nope.

All the possible "solutions" have boiled down to a choice of:
- stop wanting dark text on a light background
- stop using iOS
- pay money to CoSo in the hope that a third-party app will solve their issues

I'm not a fan of any of those options, but that's what there is.

@MrGoat @researchbuzz That's option #2: stop using iOS โ€” which is, by far, the most expensive of the three.

@MrGoat
And for those of us on a Mac, don't give up hope. You know Apple eventually adopts Android's ideas... within a decade or so.

@MrGoat Thanks so much for this tip. I find dark mode SO hard to read! I can't believe it took me this long to find a fix.

@MrGoat hi, techdunce here, anyone know how to do this using the DuckDuckGo search engine on my iOS system?
And if itโ€™s not too much, explain it in simple terms?
I have vision issues and dark mode continues to be my largest barrier to using CoSo. Iโ€™ve heard others voice this same issue too.

@MrGoat Someone was kind enough to direct me to this post. Thank you for this information! I actually found that turning the Contrast to -40, with your other settings made the display perfect for me. I never would have figured this out on my own, thanks!
