Eons ago when I had a blog I used to do One Good Thing Wednesday urging people to comment with one good thing, no matter how small, that had happened in their life since Sunday.
I'm bringing it here.

Mine- I actually gave some new people ideas for living with chronic pain.

Now it's your turn.

Hey there, I'm Julie.
51yo mom of 2 teens in semi-rural NC.
Grew up in South Jersey and moved to NC in 1995.
I've got 2 dingaling dogs and a Not Our Cat who has decided that he owns our property.
I'm autistic, as are our kids, and we all have ADHD.
Nonbinary. Exhausted due to chronic pain. Still find joy in things.
Also when my stomach is upset I eat hot peppers.
Nice to be here!

Okay, my snark about the incompetence of the Times aside...

Tonight demonstrates that Americans these days strongly dislike it when rights are taken away from them, and when given the opportunity to vote on issues instead of gerrymandered representatives, they vote for more freedom instead of less.

I just did an area theater search because I wanted my first theater trip to a movie since December 2019 to be The Holdovers, and it's not playing anywhere that isn't about 45 minutes away when it hits wide release.
Anyway.
Of course.

Planet Earth III starts tonight at 8pm EDT on BBC-A and David Attenborough's ad narration (This. Is Planet Earth) has had this stuck in my head for weeks. Anyway, word is 3 is great but folks are detecting a sadness in Sir Dave's voice that hadn't been there before. I'm so excited for this series, though.

I was trying to explain the looking at the sun or bright light to release a stuck and it's apparently called ACHOO and I love science dorks.

.
The Moorish Chief.
When I was a teenager and went with a class to The Philadelphia Museum of Art I wandered around thinking everything was actually pretty great and then turned into a room to see this.
I got out the poster I bought like 35 years ago and showed it to my kid tonight and he was like THAT LIGHT.
It's hard to describe.

It's super hard on the Internet to be like I'm not generally a fan of blah and then discovering that a blah you enjoy is wonderful and then people are like BUT YOU SAID.
It's exhausting, folks.

I'm Brussels sprouts.
Hence the new avatar.
My kid and I had a talk tonight about how much we want to reach out to people but people think we're too much and retreat.
We're Brussels sprouts.
I'm going to pop in a couple times a week but not every day.
No one wants Brussels sprouts every day.

I came in here to check my DMs and I see that, through posts and replies, some Black women who posted here regularly no longer feel safe here and one has left.
Yeah. I'm white.
It's not about me.
This forum is a gift.
It would behoove everyone to make it a safe place for all.

Checked my DMs.
Saw someone critical about my tone.
See you later, alligators.

I just took a gulp of ice water and said "God I fcking love water," and then I laughed at the child I was in the 70s who didn't understand how awesome water is.
Good night.

I'm about to go to sleep but I want to mention that being called a Froot Loop is ultimately unsatisfying because to my knowledge I have never created fruity milk.
It's a real bummer.
Try using the C word next time.
With an adjective!
We good?
Awesome.
Have a great sleep.

No matter what happens in the world white cis men on the Internet will tell you whether or not it's worth caring about or speaking about.
It is fucking exhausting.
I think these folks need to sit down in absolute silence with no electricity and one single cookie.
Because it's absolutely exhausting.

Oh noes the middle aged white lady is decrying the inherent racism on the internet including this platform!
That's our job, white people

Because it's everywhere, and ignoring it is approving it.

I'm so fucking tired of being told I'm yelling when I'm just being firm.

Now I have people telling me to couch myself with more pleasant verbiage

I'm a white woman.

Now you can get why there aren't many Black people here.

Here's what happens on even what is supposed to be the Safe place on the internet.
A white man calls you dear and offers his services as a therapist because you dared to expound on why Black women said they don't feel safe here.
It isn't surprising.
It's new, though!
Goddamn you fucks.
