Came in today expecting to be in ICU. Floated instead to Med/Surg. It’s not a bad float but I really don’t like not knowing where I’m going until it’s go time. I’m the type that needs to mentally prepare for about 10 minutes at minimum.

Lots of Code Violets for a Saturday.

Happy to all nurses, nurse aides, and nursing support personnel! May your ratios be safe, your acuities low, and your lunch breaks attainable & uninterrupted. 💉 🏥 🚑 💊 ⚕️

there's a planned hot water shut off in your building and they accidentally shut it all off and you have 5 COVID pts on your unit.

Waking up physically rested, mentally exhausted, and emotionally spent. Gonna crush this 12 hour shift because there's always someone having a worse go of it than me.

someone asks you to "just drop off some stuff to their patient real quick..." But neglects to tell you that said patient hasn't worn a shred of clothing all week (or even covered herself with a bedsheet) and doesn't plan to any time soon and your poker face is non-existent, even under a mask.

It looks like the hospital Starbucks employees have woken up and chosen violence. This is an ominous start to the day.

Is it too early to decorate my inpatient nursing unit for Valentine's day. (Read: change decorations over from New Year's--which already feels like ages ago...)

Woke up feeling more tired than when I went to bed. Then I realized I have to stick to my stupid new years resolution of not giving Starbucks any more of my money...
...and being conscious just got a lot harder.

I'm gonna need a bigger thermos. (Recommendations appreciated.)

Hospital employee holiday menu NEW YEARS:
Pork loin or Cajun Jackfruit
Choice of 2: Glazed carrots, roasted potatoes, collard greens, and black eyed peas.
Sweet potato pie or coconut cream pie.

IDK... gonna see about this jackfruit.

Friends, this has been the saddest in my living memory. I worked Christmas last year and it was bad...but not sad. Numerous times today I've tried to forget it was Christmas. So many people feeling hopeless and alone and abandoned () trying to help other people who also feel hopeless and alone and sick AF ( patients)... We don't have enough people to clean rooms, we don't have enough staff to feel supported or spend time giving support to patients. 💔

The hospital holiday meal offerings? Beef brisket or grilled tofu. ...Or buy yourself Panera. 🤔 I don't love red meat. But I've never had hospital tofu. But I don't want to spend my money when I can spend the hospital's on Christmas day...

for the awesome co-worker nurse is going to pick me up on Saturday morning because she knows our little hatchback is no match for the bomb cyclone blizzard we're about to get smacked with on Friday night. Because hospitals don't get to close down for holidays or declared weather emergencies. Scary Christmas!🎄😬

I work all of weekend. I also have a Christmas Crazy 5 yr old. Do I tell her that Santa comes early for kids whose moms and dads have to help patients on Christmas () or do I just let her believe Friday is Christmas day ()?

Made it through another deplorably under staffed Saturday shift without getting screamed at or crying. That's what I call that a win, folks.

I made it all the way to the door... And realized I left my lunch box in the eleventh floor locker room. 🤬

Decorating my unit for Christmas and Hanukkah, because that task is literally the only reason my heart is in it today.

Left for work a half hour earlier than usual. Arrived 18 minutes late. I've earned at least a day old donut, right?
