Who drinks enough water? 💧

@CinnamonGirlE

How do folks who drink 88 oz sleep at night? I’d be up more than I am down.

@LnzyHou @CinnamonGirlE

I don't know? I don't get up to pee at night, but I drink an ungodly amount of water (and fruits/veggies, when I remember I have them 😂) throughout the day.

Meanwhile, my husband, who barely drinks anything with the exception of mealtime, is up at least once.

@ExecutiveFunction404 @LnzyHou
I know. It's so crazy how all of our bodies are the same, yet minute differences can make us all fluctuate so wildly in the way we function?

@CinnamonGirlE

I drink more than 88 oz before breakfast some days. Always that much before lunch

Of course I have to take meds on an empty stomach in the morning so I don't eat breakfast in a typical way. My routine is more of a brunch, late lunch, late dinner thing.

@AndersonArtwork
Mine is kind of that with lunch and dinner combined somewhat earlier than most people. More of a grazer these days. And working hard to be hydrated. I have always been a water drinker since I was a kid. But for whatever reason, really have to concentrate on hydration now.

@CinnamonGirlE

Not unusual

As people age, they tend to drink less and less...and often sleep less too

Stay hydrated my friend.

The "waters of life" is more than just a pretty phrase

@AndersonArtwork
lol, both of those track. Working on it, you too.

@CinnamonGirlE

I drink 2-3 24 oz mugs of water daily. If my cells aren't hydrated enough, they will just have to work it out because sleep is important, too. 💧

@CinnamonGirlE

A couple of thoughts:

Sense of thirst declines with age.

Drinking too much water in a short time can throw off your body's electrolyte balance and cause a dangerous condition.

@CJLavoie @CinnamonGirlE

My urologist told me same thing. Too much water unnecessarily stresses the bladder.

I still need more 💧however.

@CinnamonGirlE @CJLavoie

He was happy with 60 oz trying to get down by midday. Lest I pee all night.

My DIL buys Fiji by the case via Amazon.

Love the water.
Hate the plastic bottles.

@LnzyHou @CJLavoie
I love Fiji as well, but agree about the plastics. I do use them occasionally.

@CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou @CJLavoie It is. I've been focusing on reducing it down to as little as possible but its still everywhere.

I bought laundry powder instead of detergent to avoid the plastic bottle. Got the heavy cardboard box it came in, felt proud of myself, opened it to find the powder contained in a plastic bag.

It is in these moments that I am reminded that I cannot let perfect become the enemy of the good. Every mindful action matters.

@k_ratoncita @CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou @CJLavoie

I did try, and I shall continue to try. The plastic bag is less plastic than a plastic bottle.

On this trip, I've been buying reusable bags and containers for my pills and shoes and stuff, so I can get away from ziplocs for good.

My new pill bag, is a trail food bag, made ironically... from recycled plastic.

But it will last, and its that much less going into a landfill.

Every step forward is a victory. It all matters.

@k_ratoncita @CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou @CJLavoie When I go for walks, if I see plastic, I try to pick it up, if its not to disgusting looking (I cannot always wash my hands immediately nor do I carry gloves)

That's that much less microplastics in an environment. I found a water bottle stuck in a bush the other day.

People talk about how the Japanese have very clean streets, but that is a tradition there.

These little changes can add up to big ways. Spread the hope!

@k_ratoncita @CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou @CJLavoie

So, I'm being a ramble beast but, Patagonia, Thule, and Osprey all do stuff with blue sign materials.

Bluesign is all about producing stuff without toxic stuff, to you and the people making it. Thule and Patagonia particularly also focus on fair labor, with Patagonia leading the charge in fair trade sewing, and recycling.

So their packing cubes, and stuff like that... Awesome stuff.

Also check out cottage industries! Small business do a lot!

@NiveusLepus @LnzyHou @CJLavoie
This exactly. Perfect cannot be the enemy of good.
This is where we go insane. We do the good we can, where we can, when we can.

@NiveusLepus @CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou @CJLavoie

Good for you. You still used less plastic. Many of us are on that same journey of trying to be less of the problem.

I find myself making or doing more things myself from scratch. And funny thing, it is usually cheaper, and not actually noticeably less convenient :)

@ceorl @CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou @CJLavoie

I make my own scouring powder for the tub and sink with Baking Soda, Washing soda, and Kosher salt (Its got the grit)

1/2 cup each in a jar and shake it up. Works like a charm

@NiveusLepus @CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou @CJLavoie

I use detergent sheets. While they are not perfect, they are extremely low waste with zero mess.

I'm not willing to wrangle boxes of powder anymore.

@NiveusLepus @CinnamonGirlE @CJLavoie

So correct.

I bought bleach in a carton for same reason. Inadvertently sprinkled on top of washer which then transferred to brand new teeshirt with bleached spot.

Threw out shirt.

Gaaaaaa

@NiveusLepus @CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou @CJLavoie Unfortunately, without that plastic bag, your powdered detergent might quickly become a brick due to plain ol' humidity. The stuff is quite deliquescent.

@CJLavoie
Thanks. I think my difficulty in getting enough in is that I sip drinks. Not gulp. So I drink a glass when I wake up, another between breakfast and lunch, etc. until bed. Alternating helps me continue to plug away at it.

@CinnamonGirlE Where did 88 oz of water come from as an evaluator? I'd do nothing but drink water and go to the restroom at that amount.

@TheresaVermont 11 cups of water per day for an adult is an approximate. Then 8 ounces per cup.

@TheresaVermont
Just the benefits of hydration. For optimal cognitive and body performance.

@CinnamonGirlE @TheresaVermont

The amount can vary based on a lot of factors, one important one being the water content of the food you eat. The water content in fruits/vegetables counts toward the "water" intake. So if you eat more meat/grains, you should consider drinking more water.

Then consider the humidity, your exercise/activity, medicines and alcohol... spreading it out gradually throughout the day seems like the best way to stay hydrated.

@CinnamonGirlE @TheresaVermont
8 glasses of fluids per day is actually the recommended amount. Fluids includes milk, juice, ice cream, soup, etc. But not alcohol or high caffeine drinks. My mother nearly died from drinking too much water. Her blood sodium level was so low she had seizures. Moderation in all things, even water.

@CinnamonGirlE

Lol at “I hate water.” 🤣

As some are aware…I work in a kitchen.

There are more than a few days in the summer (many buildings in NE weren’t built with climate change in mind) that my end of the line can reach 140F. 😱🔥

So yeah, I stay hydrated — water, seltzer (no caffeine or alcohol while on the line, obvs), and during spring, summer, early fall…drinks like Body Armor, coconut water, cold soups like gazpacho or vichyssoise even get added.

@InUnfunky
I would pass out. Heat intolerance is an issue. But that could have something to do with being unhydrated most of the time. I would say stay safe, but it sounds like you have it down. I like Body armor as well.

@CinnamonGirlE

Will be 55 this summer, so I gotta be careful. Thus much hydration during shifts and a bit of nibbling on salty snacks, fruits, vegs. I’ve only come close to heat exhaustion once — being from FL (summers in S TX from ‘79-‘85) prepared me. 🤓

@InUnfunky
Years ago, I went to the Indy 500. At that time, it was the hottest one on record. I was under the covered area for the race, but walking back later to the vehicle, I got too hot and almost had heat exhaustion. Ever since then, I have not been able to deal with it as effectively. I don't help myself by not being hydrated enough. I know all these things. I am not a good patient. 😂

@CinnamonGirlE

NP — heal thyself! 🤓

And this stuff, too. I should get an endorsement. 😎

lifewaykefir.com/

@CinnamonGirlE

You could dump some of that granola your son gave you into it. Yum. 😉

@CinnamonGirlE

More of drink, tho...so watch out.

😎

Be advised as well -- more of that fermented tingle, too. Opened a guava one yesterday at work and had to check the date.

Spoiler (pun) alert -- it was OK.

😉

@InUnfunky
Yikes! Thanks for the warning. I will get only one to start. Pretty sure I had some Kefir at some point. So I kind of remember that.

@InUnfunky @CinnamonGirlE

I learned from craving Chinese, Mexican food or salty snacks, it is my body’s way of saying hydrate me. ASAP

@CinnamonGirlE

I drink a lot of water, bc I always have to have a drink with me at all times (I call it my emotional support water bottle lol). It keeps my water ice cold all day long, otherwise I couldn't drink water, bc warm water is 🤢

However, it's not one size fits all; for example, I only require 58oz of water. Age, weight, height, climate, energy level, amt of hydrating foods consumed, & other factors determine individual hydration requirements.

everydayhealth.com/dehydration

@ExecutiveFunction404
I can't do warm either. Either straight from the fridge or with ice.
The 88 ounces was an approximation on how much the average adult needs. Yes, many factors play into it.

@CinnamonGirlE

I get it. It's a poll, you're limited in options and want to be concise and understood (not my forte bc adhd 😂)

Before I bought my water bottles, my intake was def lower. So if anyone is struggling to drink water, I'd highly suggest getting an insulating water bottle 💦

@ExecutiveFunction404
Exactly, thanks.

I agree on the water bottle. I have multiple. Using one today.

@ExecutiveFunction404 @CinnamonGirlE

💯

Find a bottle, mug, glass, or wineskin you love. I'm a fan of Tervis, but I have a friend who drinks her water from crystal wine glasses (she likes them, they are pretty, don't judge).

@Cosmichomicide @ExecutiveFunction404
I like Tervis also. I also have a Yeti I drag around from time to time. But whatever works.
