A couple of thoughts:

Sense of thirst declines with age.

Drinking too much water in a short time can throw off your body's electrolyte balance and cause a dangerous condition.

Thanks. I think my difficulty in getting enough in is that I sip drinks. Not gulp. So I drink a glass when I wake up, another between breakfast and lunch, etc. until bed. Alternating helps me continue to plug away at it.
