As for the Muslims, their interest is based on "Al-Aqsa"; the name of a site from which Muhammad supposedly journeyed by night to heaven on a fabulous bird-animal.

But neither the site of Al-Aqsa, nor the fabulous bird, nor the flight to heaven, ever happened. It's all fiction. The Muslims who conquered Jerusalem later in the 7th century decided to choose the Temple Mount as "Al-Aqsa," but there was no legitimate basis for this claim.

no wood could have survived three centuries in that climate intact, nor would it have been conveniently buried near the site; rather than being broken up and used for construction or firewood.

And there is no evidence, none at all, that the site chosen for the "Holy Sepulchre" was anywhere near the site of the crucifixion or the tomb, or even that those two sites were conveniently near each other. Excavations do nothing to justify the choice of the site.

It's an interesting fact that both Christian and Muslim interest in what they call "the Holy Land" is based on fictions and fabrications.

The Christian interest is centered on the "Holy Sepulchre," a church complex that supposedly covers both the site of Jesus' crucifixion and his burial.

But this Church was founded in the early 4th century to be a magnet for Christian tourists. Its primary attraction, the Holy Cross, was a fabrication–

I'm not particularly bothered by people believing in the fictions of their choice–most people believe in some fiction or other–but only so long as that fiction remains relevant to them personally and only affects how they live their lives, hopefully for the better.

But when they feel a need to impose their fictions on other people, or, worse yet, start killing people because they don't accept their fictions, then it's fair to call them out on them.
