Any decentralized movement that has no defined leaders can't control whackjobs that claim to speak for it. So easy to splinter them or cause them to lose their reputations by infiltrating them and being an asswipe.

I'm thinking more of North Carolina, where being a couple hundred yards from a creek could mean you're at significantly higher elevation. In Florida, yeah, farther from the ocean is closer to the swamps.
@VelvetDuchess
Someone posted comment to the thread showing their car scooting down the highway with almost no traffic.
Wait, they haven't done that already?
If you're in a flood that high, yeah, you can't save anything you can't carry. But most people aren't living right on the side of the river, so they may be quite a few feet above flood stage to begin with. For them, it could make a difference.

Looked into buying one of those as a memorial. Turns out it's not legal to plant them in Illinois, because they're considered invasive.
In Philadelphia, the biggest problem is people cutting them down and stealing them from Fairmount Park, because the wood is so valuable.
That one looks like satire, but there's no explanation for MTG.

It's beautiful, but I would lean toward conservative when you decide what to put behind the CW (content warning) as not safe for work. I may appreciate art, but the coworker looking over my shoulder may not.
@Museek
Yeah, if you don't care about yourself, have some thought for the first responders who will have to wade door to door looking for your bloated corpse.
from my friend Pat:
(she suggests if you want to help, these folks are a good choice: https://www.belovedasheville.com/ )

I just learned that one of my family members is flying down to Florida ahead of the storm--in order to be in position to help in shelters when the time comes (part of an organized effort).
I am proud of them, and grateful, and also worried.
So as much as you might be tempted to condemn humanity, and despair for the horrors we enact upon each other--
There are also heroes. Everyday folks trying to help the world, one act of service at a time.

There have always been hurricanes, but the rising sea levels means property purchased there will have zero value in 50 years. Someone in the succession of property owners gets stuck holding the hot potato where there are no longer any willing buyers.
