OOo oooh, I forgot ScroogED -- the one with the violent fairy. How can you not love a movie with a violent fairy and Bill Murray in it?
@GaryPoole: For me, it's usually:
Jaws,
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and
A Christmas Story.
@GaryPoole
I ❤️ Miracle on 34th Street - the first one with Natalie Wood ❤️❤️❤️. It still makes me sad every time I think about her. 😭. However, I still pick It's a Wonderful Life.
@GaryPoole - a toss up between "A Christmas Story" and "Die Hard"
@0x56 @GaryPoole
Tough call!
I'm leaning toward Polar Express, but A Muppet Christmas Carol is a strong contender as well.
I would say It's A Wonderful Life, but I rarely watch it. My favorite Christmas movie is The Family Stone.
Love The Family Stone! An underrated gem IMHO.
@GaryPoole I think I'd actually like to watch A Christmas Story again, so that must be my favorite. Not sure if it's the Bumpus Hounds, the F bombs, or the "you'll shoot your eye out" that gets me all festive. It's just funny to me, and timeless.
@GaryPoole Die Hard
@LnzyHou I have one, yes. Got it from someone on Etsy, who has apparently sold a LOT of them. 😂
@GaryPoole
If the US Postal Service, a branch of the federal government, says this is the greatest Christmas movie of all time…. Then who am I to disagree? 🌲😉
Die Hard 😂
Sound of Music
Polar Express
Totally with you on White Christmas (the dance numbers alone are worth the watch, and Rosemary Clooney looks good enough to eat with a spoon).
Another is Desk Set with Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, which takes place at Christmas. It's on Turner Classic Movies in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve if you want to record it.
It's a Wonderful Life
Die Hard
The Christmas Chronicles
Elf
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Not seen yet but want to:
Love Actually
That one on the Hallmark Channel...you know, the one about the successful business woman who returns to her hometown and unexpectedly falls in love with a man who does something simple for a job which forces her to reevaluate her choices in life, eventually leaving the stress of her high income city job to be by her new man's side, realizing wealth can't be measured in material things as the two of them hold hands and look up at a bright star overhead as credits roll.
That one.
Sure you don't mean the one about the lower-class person who finds themselves unexpectedly doing something simple and kind for the ruler or ruler-to-be of Madeupistan and they fall in love on a sleigh in the snow? And the the ruler discovers the importance of keeping in touch with the common people and having a generous heart, and ends up singlehandedly playing Santa at the local orphanage? And then there's a big Christmas wedding?
@GaryPoole
Nightmare before Christmas and newest fav Spirited on Appletv with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell 😍
Miracle on 34th St. is the most nostalgic for me, but I don't actually watch it often.
I loved A Christmas Story, too, but I'd say my favorites are Scrooged and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated).
Muppets Christmas Carol gets an honorable mention.
@GaryPoole Younger me liked old movies- Miracle on 34th St, A Christmas Carol, and It’s a Wonderful Life. Older me can’t stand the manipulative poignancy. I do enjoy any version of Love Actually.
@GaryPoole @tyghebright
Miracle on 34th Street (original)
White Christmas
Scrooged
The Grinch (Cumberbatch)
I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to holiday movies, so for me it's really a top 3 list:
1) Miracle on 34th Street
2) White Christmas
3) A Christmas Story
