Indeed the government needs to step in to expedite repair/replacement of the Francis Key bridge, but I have not seen one word about the shipping company’s culpability.

@CanisPundit

I'd like to think that the federal government will go after the shipping company to recover at least some of the cost. The immediate need leaves no time for that battle. So we'll see what happens over the longer term I guess.

@CanisPundit Maersk (who leased this bridge -killing behemoth) and ship owners and operators and their insurers have deep pockets and clear liability. Patience, little grasshopper.

@cassandra17lina I understand the patience piece, I think corporate responsibility should be part of the political messaging along with the triage of a crisis.

@CanisPundit Corporate lawyers have probably hired yet another PR firm to control all messaging.

@cassandra17lina you know it. Probably the same people representing Boeing and rail companies.

You really think engaging the attorneys while they are still bringing out bodies is appropriate?

I mean, it's going to be investigated and insurance claims will be made. No one is going to say "THEY DID IT!", the investigation will take months, so not sure what you are asking for.

Speculation and statements of retribution?

@CanisPundit @cassandra17lina @Cosmichomicide The nice thing about having a powerful and effective federal government is that it should easily be capable of multitasking

@CanisPundit

First order of business is clearing debris out of the deep water channel to get the big ships moving again. That time will be used to stress test the remaining bridge and plan whether to repair/redesign/replace.

The port makes this much more complex, unfortunately.

I expect there will be a big boost to public transit in Baltimore for a while.

@CanisPundit
Given how universal it is for ships using US harbors to be registered in foreign countries, I'm guessing they are governed by the liability laws of the registering country no matter where the tort occurs.
