Here's wishing all of you a Happy 2022.
I give you two of my favorite arrangements of Auld Lang Syne:

Around this time last year, I posted a thread of some of my favorite Christmas choral music. I spent longer than you might imagine to find the very best interpretations / performances of each piece.
Please go have a listen if this is your type of thing. These are true gems. Most of these pieces have deeply affected me at some point, and not necessarily because of the Christmas season. They are simply amazing works of art.
This is some of the best #cosoclassical humor I've seen in a long time.

Choir concert tonight went well. It was our best run yet, we had a big and enthusiastic audience, and it felt good to put on the tux and get out there again for the first time time two years.

Solo auditions for the local choir I sing with are tonight, and I was asked to be the accompanist. (Hence my post a few days back, taping together sheet music for no page turns.)
There is a high potential for drama given past experience with certain people. I'm going to try to ignore it all and just play what Signor Vivaldi tells me.
I feel like I need to go back to my altar boy training and incense the audition room beforehand. 🎶🙏💨
A major loss in the #cosoclassical world.🕯️
Bernard Haitink dead: Former CSO principal conductor was 92 - Chicago Sun-Times

Took this at choir practice earlier this week. Points to whoever can name the piece first. (It's VERY well-known.)

Still one of my favorite pieces I've ever studied, and is a perfect example of why metalheads and jazz musicians alike respect Bach.

This is happening live right now if your local PBS affiliate carries it. I am going to check it out on demand from the beginning if it is posted in the future.
Metropolitan Opera | Verdi’s Requiem

This is the piece of music I always think of on this day. 🕯️
Arvo Pärt - Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten
Orchestre de Paris
Paavo Järvi, conductor
Live recording. London, BBC Proms 2013
Just returned from my first in-person choir rehearsal in 18 months. It was nice to be singing with people again, but it felt surreal.
I haven't channeled my avatar in quite a while. Fixing that now with this amazing performance. Crank it to 11, but don't say I didn't warn you if you're in a puddle at the end. Yes, it is worth an hour and a half of your time.
Gustav Mahler - Symphony No 3
Anna Larsson, contralto
Arnold Schoenberg Chor
Tolzer Knabenchor
Lucerne Festival Orchestra
Claudio Abbado, conductor
If you've never heard Gesualdo, be prepared to have your expectations of Renaissance madrigals obliterated.
Carlo Gesualdo - Sesto libro di madrigali: XVII. Moro, lasso, al mio duolo
Ensemble Métamorphoses
Maurice Bourbon
^ Also, it is VERY difficult to hear the harmonic shifts in "This is America" during the verses (even for someone with my background). I assert that the only thing "surprising" about that song is the video. I never thought that song was anything special on its own; people are conflating it with the (excellent) video.
(If you think I'm just a #cosoclassical nerd looking down on hip-hop, you're mistaken. I've always been a big fan of artists like Wu-Tang Clan, The Roots, Chance the Rapper.)
