@PatrickKay A good number of the better (or at least more amusing) posters with large followings are on Threads, so I peek in to see what they're up to (see my too many shared posts), and sometimes throw in a comment or two. The music side is overrun with engagement farming, and the algorithm is the pits, so it's frustrating for anything more than a glance over now and again.
Had to Google engagement farming. I’m always astonished folks need multiple SM accounts.
I spend too much time on one.
What is missing on CoSo that drives this need to be everywhere?

Coso has so many other features not offered on any others, as well.

I had 29K followers on TW. Only 50 or so enriched my life. The rest were angry lurkers who popped up periodically to start shit or finish it.
I still don’t see the value.
Or the ridiculous waste of time. It took me 3 mos to recuperate after deactivating TW 2 yrs ago.

If you really need the dopamine hits from likes and reposts CoSo is not going to do it in similar volume of the big sites. And there’s ‘big name’ interactions.

I was mutuals with some of those big names. And honestly, I sometimes miss the impact of their posts due to their celebrity/volume of followers.
But I was only an unknown entity who stroked their ego when they needed it. Never was the stroking returned as it is on CoSo. They neither knew my life nor cared to.
It is a great relief that I am no longer part of that marketing machine that creates a faux world of online sycophants.

Alarmingly so. I’m often astounded by my risks of self revelation on CoSo. Sometimes knowing I may be attacked, spanked or derided.

I have a core group of "Never Trump" originals from 2016. We are really close and meet up outside social media. We squabble like family. I'm having a hard time letting any of them go.There's almost 1,000 of us and everyone moved to blusky so I'm there temporarily and pretty much only talk to them. We have each other's phone and addresses..it's weird I guess but we all cut from the gop in '16 and "were not going back" we donate, work elections - 🤦♀️🤷♀️

My frustration is the amount of folks who “love” this site & refuse to spend $4.99/mo to keep the lights on.

Sometimes a child has to be encouraged, nay required, to pull their own weight. A free year to see the benefits, maybe even at pro status for the 1st 6 mo, then if they won't pony up back to regular status, at $10 annual. @LnzyHou I have to wait. I literally have zero savings left after paying for surgery. Should be able to after April if everything goes well but it's not a guarantee.
@LnzyHou @t_heislen @PatrickKay I'm on other social media to market my work and to connect with people that are no where else. It's the only reason I still have a facebook. Core buddies of yesteryear and family are there and that's how we stay in touch.
Coso is the only SM place I want to be, to the point that I don't push anything business side here. I'll talk about my work, but this place has a much more personal air to it than the stale generality of bluesky or the chaos of threads

Coso is unique and I think that will keep Coso from ever being big, but that is its greatest strength.
It's very much a small town community. You won't find on Coso what most people are looking for on other social media sites, which is engagement and some algorithm jangling the keys of novel and new in front of you
On coso, the way it's built fosters connection, not the growing of a superficial acquaintance network.
