Mum is treating us to dinner and theatre tonight.
We're watching Jesus Christ Superstar which I have *never* seen. Not even the movie version!
Excited.
Switching phone off.
See you later.
@stueytheround Spoiler alert.......he gets killed in the end.π
@FrankCannon @stueytheround
But the music is great!
@FrankCannon I've read the book π
@stueytheround π
It is really good. Enjoy!
Oh, you'll have so much fun. My mom loved that musical and we watched it on TV several times.
@stueytheround I saw that in the theatre when it came out (yes, old)! The music is awesome, though I have to say I prefer Ian Gillan's vocals to Ted Neeley.
@stueytheround
Mary Magdalene's song, Everything's Alright, always haunts me in the best sort of way :)
Enjoy!
@stueytheround
I've never seen it in person, but I wore that original cast album out when it came out.
Felt stupid how long it took me to figure out why the last song was called "John Nineteen Forty-one" though.
@EileenKCarpenter π
@stueytheround the music is very catchy. A favorite of mine.
@stueytheround Seen it in the theater with a friend who got massively excited because he was convinced that the guy playing Mr. J was flirting with him. Weeeelll, other interpretations are available. And no, he didn't become a devout churchgoer afterward (I mean my friend).
i used to play with a group that did a number of tunes from JCSS--great stuff.
@northernbassist Gethsemane is an absolute belter!
that, and Superstar..
@stueytheround
Iβm glad you loved it, Stuey. Itβs a great show.
@stueytheround Jesus Christ Superstar is a favorite, mainly because of how Judas is approached. I'm so glad you enjoyed!
You might also enjoy the last temptation of Christ, it's considered highly controversial but I think it nails the redemption narrative better than most any other Jesus movie out there.
@NiveusLepus @stueytheround I second Last Temptation of Christ.
I remember when it came out and fundies lost their shit. Some major preacher mounted a protest outside the studio doors where they mimed Christ being crucified again. The crowd gathered around laughed at him. He was nonplussed.
@LiberalLibrarian @stueytheround William Dafoe made a highly convincing Jesus.
Well that was brilliant in unexpected ways.
It really isn't about Jesus. It's about friendship, love, betrayal, hope, fear, doubt and disappointment. What struck me most was the love between Judas and Jesus.
The cast were all exceptional and the music was magnificent.
Loved it.
