Ran away to Mexico for the first time. New lifer birds- brown pelican & long-billed curlew; lots of stray/feral dogs; gave away food to a school and abjectly poor people in a shantytown; walked along the beach; mariachi bands serenaded us during supper; oyster farms; saw the border wall, a defunct open-pit copper mine, and got my first pedicure in 11 years (which felt amazing!) Coot foot (4 toes instead of webbed). Riparian Preserve, Gilbert, AZ, 11/23/22. These shorebirds are hunted in North Dakota, so they're skittish. I've wanted to get this shot for a long time. I didn't quite get all 3 front toes in the shot in my excitement, when he hopped up onto the boardwalk in front of us.
