shouldn't news outlets report epicenter depth as well as richter scale measure for earthquakes? I recall reading reports years ago that would say things like "yeah, it was an 8.1, but the epicenter was seven miles down & so it wasn't as bad as you'd think..."

this just in from my sister in NY: number of pianos that fell on her in the earthquake: zero.
