Oof, this is a downer, but man is it illuminating.

Good stuff:
Yes, it’s okay to compare Trump to Hitler. Don’t let me stop you.
On the one hand I'm thinking... Better for trump to be on the ballot everywhere & get completely repudiated, in the (naive?) hope that republicans *finally* take the lesson that hey, like it or not, we are a pluralistic democracy & you're going to need to appeal to a majority of voters if you expect to win power in this country.

Ms Petri nails it, as usual.
GOP baffled that ‘We Don’t Care if You Die’ is not a winning slogan
So--this missing binder of US intelligence on Russian interference in the 2016 election that the trump admin supposedly lost--would that be part of a sad effort to bury any evidence of that? Like--did trump think that was the only copy & if he could get rid of it then it would be gone for good?
now reading (and it's good stuff as usual):
Georgia Republicans’ New Voting Maps Defy Court Order to Boost Black Representation
In the US, partisans of both parties fear for the future of our democracy.
Democrats fear for it because Republicans have for years suppressed the vote, have passed a record number of bills giving them the power to disregard election results, recently made a violent coup attempt, and seem content to re-nominate the coup-plotter.
Republicans fear for it because their leaders & media lie to them about election integrity, and have trained them not to listen to anyone else.

Goddammit--the judicial/criminal justice system is just not up to the task of saving us from the possibility of another trump presidency. We're just going to have to beat him at the polls again.

Texas town settles Klan act lawsuit
"The lawsuit alleged that by refusing to help, law enforcement officers violated the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871 because they were aware of “acts of violent political intimidation” but did not take appropriate steps to prevent the Trump supporters from intimidating eligible voters."

I don't actually blame McCarthy for agreeing to a one-person-can-toss-me-out deal. That was the best deal he could get & so he took it. The deal was not the problem--the problem is that the GOP has empowered its lunatic fringe (which let's be honest is way more than just the fringe nowadays) to the point that it is basically ungovernable.
No sane person should want that job, and anybody else is going to have the exact problems Kevin did.
