The AKC “standards” for certain breeds directly cause pain and suffering. For example there is no need or excuse to breed German Shepherds with sloped backs. These dogs are destined for a life of hip dysplasia & arthritis. The current winner of the herding group is a prime example of how these “standards” ruin a dog’s health.

The European Space Agency #ESA has announced their new class of #astronauts. The class consists of five career astronauts, the first disabled or para-astronaut, and 11 reserve astronauts (qualified candidates who will keep their existing jobs, but receive some training such that is a mission need arises, they can be brought in). The five career astronauts are Raphaël Liégeois (Belgium), Rosemary Coogan (UK), Marco Sieber (Switzerland), Pablo Álvarez Fernández (Spain), & Sophie Adenot (France).
