Power is out! But the Comcast Gateway and the TV are on a UPS, so we're sitting here in the dark watching TV until the UPS goes out.

Last night on the TV weather report they warned us about high winds in the area. So far in our apartment the power has flickered four times. This afternoon I stepped out of my home office while many other residents are out and about for the day, and parked my car in an area where it’s least likely to be hit by a falling tree, paying particular attention to the prevailing wind direction. Are you in a high wind area? Where is your car parked?

If a lawnmower's output can be measured in horsepower, then any computational device can be measured in artificial intelligence.

I should specify that I'm referring to the mobile app. I don't think I've ever edited a picture with Google Photos on a Windows desktop or laptop, so I only think of the mobile app. I'm using a Google Pixel 6.

In the Google Photos app, the menu is inscrutable. For example, to rotate a picture, it's:
Edit - Crop - and then a symbol for rotate.
There's no way to rotate a photo without selecting "Crop" first.

It wasn't always like that. It happened with an Android update quite some time ago. For the life of me I can't figure out why.

Cleared security at ATL after spending a week with the I & C and DCS technicians at Georgia Power. Headed home!

My laptop bag gets inspected by TSA about half the time because it's full of cables, connectors, and adapters. I have a lot of that stuff in my checked baggage, but I put the "essential few" in my laptop bag in case my suitcase gets sidetracked on the trip. But today - no special inspection!

Several of the engineers I worked with all week are from this power plant. I drove by it on the highway every day going to and from the Training Center. I'm doing my part to make the nation's power grid more secure and reliable by teaching new skills to the engineers who keep it operational.

@stueytheround I agree that in the literal interpretation of his words, he may be correct. But, I dunno... I'm sensing a perception of equivalence in his complaint. But no one is threatening him with death or deportation. No one is bombing retirement communities.

Ageism is real, don't get me wrong. I'm 69 years old, and I've experienced it personally. Nevertheless - we older white males are the most privileged group in America. Calling ageism the "most pervasive form of discrimination" - I mean, everybody gets old, so sure. But... there seems to be a lack of awareness here about what other forms of discrimination entail.

It occurs to me that I could become a millionaire just by selling a women's clothing line called "Real Pockets."

Heading to Atlanta from Seattle this morning. Then I'll drive a bit north and check in to my hotel. Sunday is R&R, then I'll spend all next week working for a public utility.

Like an archer who wounds at random
is one who hires a fool or any passer-by.
As a dog returns to its vomit,
so fools repeat their folly.
Proverbs 26:10-11

Wife and I have ice cream for tonight. It remains to be seen whether it’s party ice cream or comfort food ice cream.

@LKNWoman
I copied it from someone on Threads who copied it from someone on Facebook. It adds a little levity to this whole...
situation.

I frequently try to click the X in a screenshot to close it.

@Armchaircouch I took the ferry from Seattle, WA to Vancouver, BC. A Canadian gentleman sitting next to me was reading a newspaper, and when he finished, he kindly offered it to me. I noticed that virtually the entire front page was devoted to American news. I struck up a conversation with him and said, “I’m curious. This is a Canadian paper, but the front page is mostly American news. Why is that?” He replied, “Because what happens in your country affects us so much.”

People who use the laughing emoji for mockery reveal something dark and horrible about their personality.

Now that Cybersecurity Awareness Month is over, it’s comforting to know that we’ll never again have to worry about successful phishing attacks or ransomware.
