The smartest woman I know (my mother) reminded me today that TFG’s M.O. is to come out of the gate with something super outrageous so that when he backs off of that for something slightly less despicable or ridiculous, we lose some of our outrage. Anyone familiar w/Manhattan Short film festivals? Friends of ours had 2 of the dvds (that’s the only way to see them unless you attend a screening; not sure why a digital download isn’t available to purchase). “An Irish Goodbye” — SO GOOD. I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe, but also was very touched. “Freefall” was disturbing. “Closed to the Light” — brilliant, powerful, and more timely than I wish it were. That’s all we had time to watch Sat. night, but I was grateful to them. #healingart

AND this has opened my eyes to the fact that America is primarily a racist, misogynistic, gullible collection of dunces. And, boy, has that realization been liberating. #politics

The GOP ran an objectively criminal nasty piece of shit for our highest office twice and gave him a carte blanche. Two intelligent, principled women running good campaigns lost to him. The GOP leaned into propaganda, racism, and misogyny in order to elevate a moron with no skills. “Better” isn’t going to win against people who will stoop so low. The GOP is PRIMARILY responsible. I personally don’t think turning my back on the only real American party left is going to help. #politics

Start at the bottom
of what is framed
in the window, the swath
of icy mercury lying north and south.
Move your eyes up to the mirrored fire.
Up to the black line of trees straight ahead.
Up and due east to the fire itself.
Tilt your chin to find the citron
sky cooling itself by pouring
up into the unfurnished beryl’that stretches into frozen
vast blackness, pinned with stars
winking still, though the people
say they are already cold and dead.

1. Colors

sunrise blazes
over the lake;
orange reflecting;
orange tinged with pink;
a harbinger of the chromatic
pain of the day;
what a scream
of tormented surrender
would look like
in a painting;
lake sky sun
glass metal fire;
not a new day
but an awful new way
of being;
months of sunrises
that mimic heat
more than give light;
stuck in a burning
titian moment
on a flamingo time loop;
the people’s mouths

Feel good stories #politics edition no.2: I butt-dialed a white male Republican friend of ours this a.m. He called back, we figured out the mistake, but we chatted and he closed with “Don’t forget to vote!” I told him I already had; he said “Me too!” He had previously shared with me that he voted for TFG in 2016, then saw how TFG had no moral compass, and regretted his vote immensely. So today when he said go vote to ME? I took it as, “I got you this time, sis.” #whitedudes4kamala

Feel good stories #politics edition no. 1: my Republican husband walked into the house Wednesday morning, carrying groceries, with a fresh haircut and said, “Honey, I just voted for more blue than I ever have in my whole life.” Let it be known, he has never cast a vote for TFG, but down-ballot blue is new!
