Remember that librarians present materials, programming, and answers that do not discriminate; that preserve freedoms and serve the community.
Chase us away, and you lose democracy in information. It's that serious.

This post is a deviation from expected archival material.
I am a librarian, and believe in the freedom to read and research. I also believe that librarians have the right to do their jobs without being bullied or threatened.
I am so very sad to report that Mychal Threets -- one of the best librarians I know -- has suffered so much social media and other bullying that he cannot do his job, and is leaving the library field.

I love the mid-century music -- especially Big Band. Benny Goodman's Sing Sing Sing (written by Louis Prima) recorded in Carnegie Hall in 1938 -- all 12+ minutes of it!
Should I share more of it on CoSo? Is there an audience for music from that time?

I am a librarian/archivist and specialize in 20th century history. Attitudes and choices of the past when viewed with the understanding of the present will feel uncomfortable.
This doesn't mean we quit studying history.
Learning from the past will make us better people if we allow it. We can recognize prejudice and racism, and determine that we will act differently. We can by example teach our children and grandchildren, neighbors and friends.
It's cold outside, but warm #InTheLibrary. An economics class is visiting later to learn about the Marshall Plan -- what better place than at the #MarshallFoundationLibrary?
Good morning, @LlamaMountainStudioArts A bit of snow in our forecast but I don't think it will stick.
How is your today going?
Good late morning, @Mandypar.
Do you celebrate Christmas, and if so, do you have decorations up yet? My English friends put them up so early in November. Ours don't go up til after Thanksgiving generally but it's so late this year that I am seeing some up already.
Good Thursday, @Minholkin. I hope positive vibes rule the day as we remember we are not in life alone and don't have to handle everything by ourselves.
#AdoptDontShop⦠Petey - a #GreatDane mix - has been at @heschatt for a year and is looking for his #FureverHome. Stopping by tonight for @wdefnews12 #PetOfTheWeek segment. Go to Wdef.com for details.
I eat lunch earlier than everyone else, so by the last hour of the day I'm often hungry again.
To avoid breaking my own "no food in ye library" rule, I usually take my snack and go on what I call a "pencil walk" - rescuing all the orphaned pencils from the hallway floors and giving them a new home in the library pencil cups.
I do this about once a week, and I have never purchased pencils for the library. π
Lead article in this quarter's Army History magazine is by Dr. M. Ashley Vance, whom I met as a researcher #InTheLibrary; who has spoken at the #MarshallFoundationLibrary; and who now is helping the effort to digitize the George C. Marshall Papers.
So glad to call her a friend.
@LlamaMountainStudioArts
Morning! Chilly but going to warm today. Need a aweater in the morning but not afternoon. How's the sheep enclosure coming?
@CherNohio
How are you and your hubby doing?
Goid morning, @Mandypar -- is it still morning?
Have you been back on the tilt table? How's that going? How are you feeling?
