Wife and I watched "Forbidden Planet" on Tubi last night. It's a 1956 sci-fi film. In the first few minutes I saw the precursor, and probably the inspiration, for the Star Trek transporter beams. In a later scene, in a cavernous structure built by the Krell, there's a long walkway suspended high above a chasm. It's reminiscent of a Star Wars scene with a famous light saber duel. Some things change, some things remain the same...
The nearness of the election has apparently got him riled up and he feels the need to vent, and maybe to justify himself. No matter. I will take care of his server and workstations in exchange for American legal currency. He doesn’t have to be a smart voter, he just has to pay me, and he does. Let’s keep the two things separate.
Today I was on a service call at one of my clients’ businesses. The owner was in, and he was in a chatty mood. His political views are, to put it politely, the opposite of mine. I had to listen for several minutes as he told me all about the terrible state of our nation, and how to fix it. I’m happy to say that at no time did I indicate that I agreed with him. I listened a lot, smiling, and said things like “huh,” and “hmmm…” He knows from former conversations that our votes will be different.

Thank you for that link. Nice article.
At a public utility in New England there are ten newly certified Wireshark Analysts. Now, I'm flying home to Seattle.
Yes, Facebook knows I'm in Boston this morning. This ad showed up in my Facebook feed. I want to emphasize that location-based advertising isn't inherently bad. This example is exactly how it's supposed to work.
Can location services be misused? Yes, of course. But for most people, this is all it is.
This is a new one for me - an FAA mandated flight delay! I'm traveling from Seattle to Boston, with a transfer here in Minneapolis-Saint Paul. I can't blame this on Delta. They told us the FAA is delaying flights into New England because the airspace is congested. Since I can't blame Delta, let's blame it on AI.

... after the Republican Christians destroyed American Christianity, I no longer go to church. But I still have a huge collection of Bibles, almost every English version you’ve ever heard of.
@sazemisery
Funny story about that. I’m a former minister. I graduated from Northwest Christian College (now Bushnell University) in Eugene, Oregon, with a B.A. in Biblical Studies, and a Pastoral Ministry concentration. I pastored a church for about 3 years, then went back into electronics, for which I was trained in the US Navy. I continued to write and speak about my faith (4 books you can still buy on Amazon), but (continued...)

Wow, I am never in Oklahoma. Tell the public utility there they need me!

Dinner, anyone? I’m going to be working for a client in Berlin, Connecticut next week. If you’re in the area and would like to meet in person, let’s get together for dinner at a local restaurant. I can meet on October 16-18. No sales pitches, please, just socializing. Most restaurants can handle a group of six without reservations. I’ve got a dinner like this (four people so far) planned in Kennesaw, Georgia, in November, but nothing for Berlin.
