While I think that a government shutdown would do an excellent job of reminding people what their government does for them, I also recognize that it tends to have severely detrimental—even deadly—impacts on the most vulnerable people among us.

There's that, and there's the fact that no one Party gets blamed for the fallout. Congress shares the ire pretty evenly, so it's lose/lose.

So lemme get this straight. According to Turnip, I can announce a run for president, then immediately go rob a few banks and DOJ can't prosecute me because they have a rule that prohibits it if I'm in the middle of a presidential campaign?
