Birmingham-Southern College announced Tuesday that its operations will cease by the end of May after the school failed to secure a loan from the state.
βThis is a tragic day for the College, our students, our employees, and our alumni,β said Rev. Keith D. Thompson, the chair of the board, in a statement. βBut it is also a terrible day for Birmingham, for the neighborhoods who have surrounded our campus for more than 100 years, and for Alabama.β
Israel has agreed to provide βsecurity bubbleβ for Gaza pier project
Under the plans being discussed, which have not yet been finalized, the Israel Defense Forces would establish a βsecurity bubbleβ to protect the U.S. personnel building the pier as well as the individuals involved in offloading and distributing the aid, said one of the officials, both of whom were granted anonymity to speak about sensitive discussions.

March 26, 1872 ~ Thomas J Martin, an African-American, was granted a patent for his version of the fire extinguisher. Martinβs invention, listed in the U. S. Patent Office in Washington, DC under patent number 125,063, was an improvement upon an earlier model of the fire extinguisher.
The patent refers to pipe and valves and not the wall hanging type of extinguisher that is normally displayed.

March 25, 1931 ~ The Scottsboro Boys, nine young African Americans, were falsely charged with raping two white women in Alabama and collectively served more than 100 years in prison.
The landmark legal cases from this incident dealt with racism and the right to a fair trial. The cases included a lynch mob, all-white juries, and rushed trials. The right of African Americans to serve on juries was established by their case.
