Death toll is now 9 in listeria outbreak tied to Boar’s Head deli meat, CDC says
The new food poisoning toll includes two deaths in South Carolina plus one each in Florida, New Mexico, Tennessee and New York, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Three deaths were previously confirmed in people who lived in Illinois, New Jersey and Virginia.

Walmart is recalling nearly 10,000 cases of apple juice as a result of inorganic arsenic levels that exceed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standard set last year.
The recall, which was initiated Aug. 15, includes 9.535 cases of Great Value apple juice.
The apple juice is packaged in six-packs of 8-ounce plastic bottles, with UPC barcode 0-78742-29655-5. The products have a “best used” date of Dec. 28, 2024.

New Hampshire resident dies after testing positive for mosquito-borne EEE
The Hampstead resident’s infection was the first in the state in a decade, the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday. The resident, whom the department only identified as an adult, had been hospitalized due to severe central nervous system symptoms, the department said.

A Massachusetts town closes its parks to stop a mosquito-borne disease from spreading
Plymouth, Massachusetts, began the protocol Friday after Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) was detected in a horse in the area. Sports teams and other organizations will not be able to gather in the parks after dusk, the town said.
There is no treatment or vaccine available for EEE, according to the CDC.
