The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given packaged golden raisins the highest risk classification after they were recalled due to concerns over undeclared ingredients.
The affected products all have a UPC number of 847938001385 and "Best If Used By" dates of "05/2025" or "08/2025." Lot numbers for the recalled raisins are GRA240602 and GDR240901.

San Diego Zoo is celebrating the birth of a Sumatran tiger cub, a subspecies of which only 600 give or take one-third, remain in the wild.
The cub was born August 23rd to first-time mother Jillian. This birth is an important step in San Diego Zoo Wildlife Allianceโs ongoing work to conserve Sumatran tigers.

September 8, 1925 ~ Dr. Ossian Sweet, a Black doctor, faced a hostile mob after moving into an all-White neighborhood in Detroit. When a shot rang out, killing one mob member, all 11 individuals in the home were charged with murder.
Sweet's brother admitted to firing the shot but claimed self-defense. An all-White jury returned a not guilty verdict. The trial highlighted the power of legal advocacy and the fight for racial justice.

The U.S. educated Nkrumah would be overthrown in a military coup in 1966. He befriended American activists ranging from W.E.B DuBois to Martin Luther King Jr.

The novel โOur Nig: Or Sketches from the Life of a Free Black" was published anonymously in 1859 and lost for years until reprinted by Black scholar Henry Louis Gates in 1982. The novel centers on the life of โFradaโโa Black indentured servant who was physiยญcally and emotionally abused by her owners.
