The are tense today. Lilly, the girl we found a home for in Jan, had to come back as the kid we gave her to moved to a new place with dogs. She and the dogs did not get along. Her 2 slightly older cousins (girls) are doing ok with her return, her litter brother is very much not, and it's affecting all of em. Wouldn't think a few months would be enough for them to forget 4 years together but yep. Been a lot of hissing and growling from him. No fights yet, hopefully won't be but we'll see.

I'm enjoying BioShockski, I mean Atomic Heart well enough. The dude and his glove, as well as the upgrade kiosk are all still grating. There's some decent game here, it's just buried under some cringe inducing immature edgelord writing that is marginally better than a Duke Nukem game. If you can look past that shit, (a stiff ask for me, heh) then yeah most of the game mechanics are pretty solid besides the melee. No target lock makes old man cranky.

The Xbox One lives on.

This cubby gets quite warm after a couple hours of gaming (Atomic Heart atm) so I rigged this up. That's the fan from my Xbone 🤣 Figured out which were the power wires and then wired up a male plug end to an old Class 2 variable transformer capable of 2-12v output (which gives me speed control). Wired the female end to the fan and incorporated that possibly older than me switch on the left there. Looks jank asf I know, but it's effective. Cubby stays cool now lol.

"New" Series X been on for about 7 hours now. Haven't seen anything strange at all. No screen flickers, no sudden shutdowns, nothing. Played The Show '23 for about an hour and yeah I am still used to the Xbone lol. Series is def snappy as fuck. I think I can cautiously say I got a hell of a deal on what seems to be an essentially new system that has a dent in it. Time to catch up on some games I been wanting to play. Think I'll start with Atomic Heart.

The "new" Series X showed up just after 1230pm today. Paused the task I was occupied with and opened up the box to check out the console. It was packaged well; good thing cause one corner of the box was crushed in a bit. Brought it inside and hooked it up/powered it on. Synced the controller and updated, logged in. Then I left it to sit and finished my task. Came back in, console still on and seems fine. Now I'm filling it with games.

Fucking finally. Been refreshing the FedEx tracking page from time to time the last couple days wondering just where the fuck the Series X I bought off eBay was. They had told me it was going to be here early on Friday. I knew that was bullshit cause there was no arrival scan for here yet. It's been stuck "in transit from CT" since Tuesday. Half hour ago it finally updated with an arrival scan and is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, noon to 4pm. Whew.

Well, that was educafrustrational. Been fucking with Firefox on the new OS all day, trying to bring over my settings from the borked OS drive. (yeah I hate Sync.) At one point I figured out how to bring over my most recent bookmarks, was still trying to get the tabs to come back. Did some tinkering, and broke the FF profile. Fixed that and moved files over again, and upon launch.. huzzah! all tabs populated, bookmarks, extensions.. whew. Learning is fun! *drops bowling ball on crotch*

Spent today fucking with my PC after Mint borked this morning following a reboot. Not sure what happened, failed to display the splash or login screen. I been meaning to check out an Arch based OS, sucks it has to be like this. Tried out a Live USB of CachyOS and it seemed ok, but it failed to install like 6 times. So I gave up on it and tried Garuda. That installed first try, huzzah. It's late, so not much time to check it out. Updated, installed VLC, got my MST3K going for sleepy time.

Taking a chance on a used Series X off eBay with "housing damage". Looks like someone dropped something on it, heh. Seller says it's fully functional. Even after tax it's $150 less than any *new* listing, most of which were out of stock. If it IS fully functional, I don't mind a dent. I'll get a new case for it eventually. Here's hoping FedEx doesn't fuck it up *more* shipping it here from RI.

Well, shit. Xbone has gone to meet its maker, apparently. No response to controller, power "button", or even disc insert.

I've been waiting for a good reason to upgrade. So far none of the "next gen only" games appealed to me enough to bother. Starfield *was* the one I thought might be worth it, but after Redfall... I have questions.

I guess the Xbone biting the dust is a pretty fucking good reason.

Damn it.

Hit up Ace Hardware and Lowe's for materials today. Busted out the power tools and made a bedroom door for the RV. Yep, has a gap on the left there. 1)any wider and the door sticks out into the hallway too much 2) there's a powerful fan in the bedroom roof vent, so a gap helps with airflow. A door blank to *mostly* fit this space would have cost $69 (nice.) We spent 30 on materials. And I got to play with power tools and smell fresh cut wood. Gonna stain it to match the RV "wood".

I like having power tools. Made this shelf in a couple hours this morning from plan in my head to screwing it together. It's nice having a table saw, square cuts are helpful. Used a chop saw for the 45° angle cuts. Bunch of sanding. Painted it white and it was on the window by 2pm. Now maybe they'll sleep up there instead of on the bed so I can get better sleep.

Yeah, probably not.

Backup camera installed. It's a potato cam, but the radio+cam cost $50 bucks so I'm not shocked. No worries, now that the hard part of getting the wiring installed is done, can get a better one and just swap it in. I need to finish the cam housing better, I know. Thought I had some stuff that would work but no luck so I'll have to get something, eventually. Good enough for now tho. It amuses me the radio volume cuts in half when the cam turns on."Turn it down so I can see better!"

Like a fucking glove. Didn't even need to use brackets. Fit is so close the screw heads are enough to keep the radio from moving lol. The bridge harnesses I ordered made this the easiest radio install I've ever done. Wire the radio harness to the bridge harness (which was properly labeled for both power and speakers) and just plug it into the truck. Everything works as it should, balance, front to back level etc. Was too late to wire up the backup cam, do that Weds, partner's next day off.

Played through Virginia a second time. Paid much closer attention this time around and popped a bunch of trophies. Let the credits run out fully and got one last trophy, which was for playing the game twice. That one finished the set and popped the Platinum, my 19th (I'm not a huge trophy hunter, obviously 😆 ). Pretty cool little experience, if a little short. 4 hours across 2 playthroughs.

Don't you hate it when you get a new toy but can't use it for a few days? Now that I've handled most of the pressing issues on the "new" truck (check engine keeps coming and going, code says EVAP purge valve but the truck "passed" smog so I got a year before I have to care enough to fix it) I ordered a new radio to fill the hole in the dash. Comes with a backup cam. Delivered today. Prob is, the brackets/wiring harness won't show till Tues.

I also tried out Chronos: Before The Ashes (on ) the last couple days. I like the concept/story, the art style/atmosphere is cool, but I'm not going to finish it. It feels too Souls-like for me while also feeling clunky, like something from around 2005. Combat is stiff which, coupled with a less than ideal control scheme, lead to several "cheap" feeling deaths. Glad it was in the PSN Extra catalog so it was "free" (leaves 5/15!).

Virginia(Multi-plat, played on )
First person mystery played from the POV of an FBI agent.

This is an odd one. No dialogue, on rails mostly, with a heavy David Lynch flavor. Lot of odd cuts and dreams rolled together to create the narrative. Fairly simple art style with a lot of bright colors. I rolled credits in 2 hours. Judging by the trophies, there's some exploration I missed. Dug it enough to play through again to find it.

Did all our laundry yesterday. It's been 6-ish years since doing laundry meant using machines without coin slots in em. Damn but it's nice having our own machines, even if they nearing 40 yrs old and have some issues, lol. Dryer timer can't turn on its own. The lint trap housing is busted. Part no longer available at warehouses so I'll have to cobble up some kinda repair to keep clothes from getting jammed against the lint trap I warped to fit in the machine. I have ideas.
