Pic of my first test of Chiaki, a PS4/PS5 remote play client, Steam Deck version. Installed the sandboxed client from git, then tested. Did the process to set up a wake up script and add the client to Steam. So now, in Gaming mode, it wakes up my 5 and runs in fullscreen. Loaded H:FW and ran around for a min, testing controls and such. Runs so smooth I feel like I stole a Project Q prototype. 1080p looks pretty good on a small screen. #Gaming #CoSoGaming #SteamDeck #PS5 #Chiaki #RemotePlay
@AlphaCentauri @Render You know who's a close second to Thurl, for me anyway? John Carradine. For this, from the awful Coleman Francis movie of the same name as the song, but aka Red Zone Cuba. Thanks, MST3K.

@TrueBloodNet Started with an Atari joystick and moved on from there. Didn't have a "PC" as a kid till high school and that was a Mac +, lol. Kept buying consoles as I got older, so a controller is still what feels most comfy, but I can M/KB pretty well. Course it's a vertical mouse these days, I've got big hands so a claw grip was the best I could do with reg mice thus carpal issues these days. Verts gotten pretty good now, at least.
@TrueBloodNet Yeah I missed EverCrack as I didn't have a "modern" PC until 2005 when my mom gave me her 2000 Dell Dimension. Blew out the Mobo on it trying to keep up with WoW (which was more than that POS could deal with) and built an AMD based PC in 2008 that became my Linux test bed for a few years. Got current PC in 2012. I still prefer consoles for my "hardcore" gaming. I just prefer a controller for most stuff. And these days Sony/M$ boxes are stripped PCs so they high end enough for me 😀
@TrueBloodNet Currently my PCPartPicker list has an Asus ROG STRIX B550-A and a Ryzen 9 5900X + an EVGA 3060 RTX 12gb. I have consoles to keep up with brand new releases so I don't have to go too high end with a PC, which I mostly use for smaller Steam experiences or older MMORPGs like WoW and LotRO, besides daily internet driving. I figure, assuming QC doesn't totally fail me, the build I'm looking at should suit me for about as long as current PC has managed.
@TrueBloodNet Nice. I just (yeah I'm way behind lol) installed a SATA SSD on this machine for the new OS. after all those years of HDDs it's amazing how much an SSD has improved this old bastard. Boots almost as fast as my Steam Deck now 🤪 I've replaced/upgraded stuff over the years, but at this point a "max level" upgrade would cost, minimum, half what a new build would be so I'm thinking spacing out build parts over the next year-ish is the way to go. Turn this thing into a media server maybe.
@TrueBloodNet At least the PC keeps working, I just have to reset it lol. Not long ago I had a Linux Mint bork so hard it wouldn't boot to the login screen any more. 24 hours later I had installed a new OS, all the programs/apps I use on a daily basis, and migrated necessary files so it was almost like nothing had happened. I did have to learn some new commands, first Arch-based OS for me.
@TrueBloodNet Aye, same. Whitelisted CoSo cause otherwise the advanced layout goes wonky. Realistically it's likely the OS. It's in it's third year now so it's still pretty new. I'll have a look in their forums later today and see if there's anybody else having the same issue, might get lucky.
@TrueBloodNet I tend to wonder if it isn't YouTube. Both days the freeze happened while a vid was playing. Google is certainly not fond of adblockers, lol.
@poemblaze I'm investigating it, but I doubt I'll be able to lock down something solid unless I find a thread in the OS forums that's full of people like me trying to figure out WTF is going on lol.
What it's really making me do is seriously look to game plan building a new PC. This one has served me well, esp as I got it as one of a pair from a guy working at a gaming company that was about to e-waste them when they were a year old. Cost? A tank of gas 😀 But yeah, it's time to retire it.
That moment when you're unsure if the reason your PC has locked up 2 mornings in a row is because
1. It's fucking old. (12 yearsish)
2. Firefox is just not really a usable browser any more.
3. The mostly unknown bleeding edge rolling release Arch-based OS you're running.
I update every morning then do my usual internet routine: hit the socials, catch up on YT subs, check emails/RSS while listening to my SoundCloud feed. Last 2 days the PC has frozen, had to reset. *shrug* #PC #DoesNotCompute
Dido - Thank You (Skeler Remix)
This is quite an amazing rework. Couldn't remember so I looked up the release date of the original track and now my back hurts.
I have finally completed (.. mostly) the "restoration" of this 29" MTB. Stripped, primed, painted the frame (Rich Plum). New tires, tubes, Shimano bottom bracket. New cables/sheathing. Quick link in the chain. Repacked both wheel hubs, but I need to replace the bearings, esp the rear, has a wicked wobble. Front suspension is a little sticky, need to work on that. Gears are tuned. Took a little test ride in the park, I'm (mostly) satisfied with it. #DIY #Cycling

Arrog (Multiplatform, played on #PS5)
Arrog is a very short .. "game". It's quite minimalist, very linear and requires only a few actions by the player to complete the story. It reminds me of Flash games from like 2005. Very simple, little experiences you could knock out in a half hour. It was enjoyable enough, but I don't know that I'd recommend it unless it's on sale (how I got it) or you are a trophy/achieve hunter. #CosoGaming #Gaming #VideoGames
Well, all's well that ends well, I guess? Pippen still reeks of fear piss so he needs to get to work cleaning himself, but for the most part he's back to acting "normally". Came up for dinner on the porch as usual last night, then came back to chill a few hours later. When I went to shut the door for the night he didn't run but stuck around for pets. Was waiting for breakfast this morning with his usual high pitched "mew ew ew?" So I guess the shelter trauma is behind him, mostly. #phew
We have retrieved Pippen from the shelter. He was apparently a terror. We knew he had some issues with being enclosed, some trauma that has stuck with him. Seems this experience brought out his worst. At one point he escaped from his enclosure, he was combative, etc. We had to "borrow" a carrier because they didn't think a transfer to ours was possible. Let him sit inside the RV for a bit so he'd know he was "home". Let him out and he ran under the truck. Came out for food/water. Seems calm now.
Took this stray guy we've been calling Pippen into the shelter yesterday. He had a cat fight infection on his face that was causing swelling. We were hoping maybe they'd keep him to adopt him out, but the shelter doesn't have space for "healthy" cats. He got antibiotics, shots, and lost his nuts. We told the shelter if they couldn't keep him we'd bring him back here. Maybe we can find him a home, now that he's had his shots etc. Hope he's not too pissed at us, heh. #CatsOfCoSo
