Thing about storm surge, which is already bad one it's own -- imagine a sudden ten foot wave -- it's full of STUFF. Multiple entire docks, boats, cars, arriving at speed. No one can "tough it out", just get as far from the coast as possible. #Milton

@holon42 fully agree. The storms seem more energetic and the paths seem weird, though I'd want to really dig into the historical data

@Museek @holon42 I believe it this thing is immense. Like the difference between earthquake Richter scale measurements (kinda). The 3s (HUGE) can spawn whole lines of tornadoes. And lightning storms, and freakish rain.

@holon42 @Museek as someone who has lived a long while on or near the Atlantic, don't worry -- hurricanes do this. I mean yeah it's terrible, they are monumentally huge storms. Last one I was even a little near laid two big oak trees down alongside the house, neat as pins. House unharmed. Probably a small tornado or big microburst.

If I understand W-E hurricanes (I don't), then Tampa and Orlando being both on the NW side of #Milton are not on the "dirty side" (SE quadrant) --should be spared the highest winds? But will get loads of rain. That sound right @MyRadar ?

@mcfate Anecdata: I benchmarked Starlink and Verizon Home Service (cellular). Verizon at that location is consistently higher bandwidth. Starlink had extremely inconsistent throughput, including none, higher latency, and cost just about double. NEITHER service is considered high-speed. Absolute last resort service.
