The sort of people I respect:
Dr.Fauci, at 74 yo, in 2015-was suiting up to treat an Ebola patient himself because he "wanted to show his staff that he wouldn't ask them to do anything he wouldn't do himself".

In any field, that’s a boss you can respect. A boss you’d run through a wall for.
Sadly, they are all too rare, today.
Mostly, a boss asks you to do what they’re “above” doing.
Funny how the word 'leader 'has been used in everything.... and yet, many times, void of deep meaning.
that's true leadership.
@artemis Indeed.
I have sadly heard some in the LGBTQ community criticize him harshly. I don't know if they are victims of the Trump misinformation campaign or not.
I graduated into the AIDS epidemic. Friends I knew in high school & college died of it.
Fauci was one of the people that listened to the gay community's concerns about being ignored, and helped make available experimental treatments available to those for who did not have the luxury of time to wait.
A good man.
So much confusion w'd be avoided if people w'd only take a bit of time to look at context, to understand actual words and actions, and then, and only then, form an opinion. Sigh...
Words I heard were to the effect of "using gay people as guinea pigs".
Um...no. Younger adults have grown up in a world where AIDS is an unhealthy and expensive inconvenience...but one that you can live with. Key word: Live.
Not 30-40 years ago.It was a fast and cruel death sentence. With no cure or treatment in sight, people were begging to be treated with whatever unproven experimental drugs existed.Odds were against the early drugs, but death in short order was already a given.
Well said.
Context matter. Also, methods to do science changed, including formalizing the ethics principles, transparency, etc.
@artemis he’s almost eighty? Sheesh. He looks like he’s in his sixties.
yup, just checked, born in 1940 Xmas time :-)
he has that aura.. coming from inside....
Ok, now that am thinking... I recall a fiction author saying she modeled one of her characters after him.... I think it was him.. don't recall the details though...
Anybody??
@artemis ha! I did not know that but I looked it up... sure enough... https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5eb21cfdc5b62b850f93f7dd
I’m not inclined to imagine him that way but in spite of being exposed to some of the deadliest diseases, he’s maintained good health!
I think he also has good compass, and discipline. That helps.
@artemis definitely... too bad he is having to deal with the nut in the White House.
hero only for that alone
^^
