The sort of people I respect:
Dr.Fauci, at 74 yo, in 2015-was suiting up to treat an Ebola patient himself because he "wanted to show his staff that he wouldn't ask them to do anything he wouldn't do himself".
https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2015/03/why-nihs-anthony-fauci-treating-ebola-patients-himself
that's true leadership.
So much confusion w'd be avoided if people w'd only take a bit of time to look at context, to understand actual words and actions, and then, and only then, form an opinion. Sigh...
Well said.
Context matter. Also, methods to do science changed, including formalizing the ethics principles, transparency, etc.
@artemis
Words I heard were to the effect of "using gay people as guinea pigs".
Um...no. Younger adults have grown up in a world where AIDS is an unhealthy and expensive inconvenience...but one that you can live with. Key word: Live.
Not 30-40 years ago.It was a fast and cruel death sentence. With no cure or treatment in sight, people were begging to be treated with whatever unproven experimental drugs existed.Odds were against the early drugs, but death in short order was already a given.
