I have sadly heard some in the LGBTQ community criticize him harshly. I don't know if they are victims of the Trump misinformation campaign or not.
I graduated into the AIDS epidemic. Friends I knew in high school & college died of it.
Fauci was one of the people that listened to the gay community's concerns about being ignored, and helped make available experimental treatments available to those for who did not have the luxury of time to wait.

So much confusion w'd be avoided if people w'd only take a bit of time to look at context, to understand actual words and actions, and then, and only then, form an opinion. Sigh...

Context matter. Also, methods to do science changed, including formalizing the ethics principles, transparency, etc.
