I was clearing out the attic earlier and came across this oil painting,I think it may be a Constable.😀

If we're all living in our heads, in online groups and games and simulations, and don't look outside, we won't see the falling trees, the expanding blobs of asphalt and concrete, and the clouds of toxic smog defiling the parching air.

We are, briefly, being asked to trade our Earth for the Metaverse. They think they can build a better planet out of pixels than the one we actually live on.

Welcome all the newcomers! Welcome to all the wanna-be Pros - the sign up is under repair at the moment , BUT - you can make a donation of any amount here while the fix is in the works. donorbox.org/countersocial

Lovely to see the first blooms starting to show, in the garden. Spring has truly sprung.

Hey,

Our payment processor has an issue and we're at their mercy regarding folks going PRO.

I've got a feeling it won't be resolved before Monday.

Yep I'm pretty mad about it too.

PSA: There's a minor disagreement happening between CounterSocial and the group that created the AGPL-licensed, open-source software that is being used to run it. If you have questions about this disagreement, please don't hesitate to ask.

The least helpful thing you can do right now is attack Mastodon, its creators, or other instance admins. Right now, they are trying to goad us into doing just that. Why? For the screenshots.

So please, do us all a favor. Don't give them any content. Thanks.

Folks. Please be yourself here. A lot of you are new kids on the block and we sure do understand the hesitation and questions about etiquette and sharing and boosting and all the technical stuff.

Just relax, push buttons, click posts, engage, laugh and enjoy this great place. If on the off chance you do something “wrong” who cares? If it’s necessary, one of us will speak up to help or correct or give you a heads up.

I just feel some tension here and want to say…breathe and have fun. K? 💜

@Zailrand @homebird They have also reduced state pension to £40 per week for some people who have retired overseas. There is a list of countries including Australia where the cuts have been put in place. UK seniors eligible for a full pension should be receiving around £185 a week. It's difficult to save in these times but it would be risky to trust that a UK pension will be there when it's needed.

I've been posting these to my Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, but as it is the last day of the special week I'll post this here:

When you ask me how I am my fine/ok is not the same as your fine/ok - we use different scales. I get brain fog, forget words, get pain in places, and have TN and OAB.

right wingers love to whine about California, but this is absolutely hellish. Exactly why we must separate church and state- we cannot allow one group's subjective reality to be enforced, especially in a way that causes real harm.

A very very dry April here so v glad to wake to rain :)

The apple tree is happy too and I have

Good morning :)

Also on the plus side, there's no algorithm that's going to boost you if you have more followers.

You're either in the Friends Feed or you're not, everything else is chronological in the fire hose.

What if I told you...
You really don't know the motives and perspectives of another?

What if I told you...
You can take what you see and learn from it rather than argue against it?

What if I told you...
You'll find a richer life when you search for the good rather than the faults?

Would you consider what you're about to post? Would you realize I'm posting about you? Would you realize I'm posting about that other account? Would you realize I'm just as full of it as you are?

Welcome new arrivals! For those of you who decide to adopt CoSo as your online home, this time of excitement & uncertainty, meeting new people and finding old friends from Tw, will become a special kind of memory. It will partially define your “generation” here.

Each wave has its own set of memories--from the earliest days, to public launch, until now.

Throughout, we all preserve the sense of goodwill and community that makes this place special even as it evolves and gets better.

Some people find it hard to separate from the feeling to think about analyzing it. Often actively noticing, naming, and acknowledging the feeling without judging it can create enough space to do that. "I notice that I am angry." Curiosity is more effective than judgement. Many people fight "difficult" feelings, but they have a valid purpose, and are ok to have too. Feelings themselves are not actions. They are just feelings.

CoSo is 100.37% Funded for April. Good job, everyone.

It's not a bad thing to have feelings, and it's no virtue to lack caring or sensitivity.

But that doesn't mean that we have to take each and every feeling we have as a given, impervious to analysis: it actually helps to think about where our feelings come from, and how our interactions with the world create happiness, sadness, or other motions.
