The House just voted 311 to 114 to expel George Santos.

This sets the very dangerous precedent of holding elected officials accountable for their unethical behavior.

@Stonekettle I guess we will see if he tries dishing the dirt on other GOP representatives.

@Armchaircouch @Stonekettle That may be his challenge. Since he is lying most of the time that his lips are moving, even if the allegations are factual, many people will simply assume that he is lying again.

@Stonekettle

A great precedent. Those ppl need to be held accountable no matter the side they claim.

@Stonekettle I'm honestly a bit surprised. Maybe the GOP has turned a corner somewhat back towards integrity. McCarthy would never have brought this to a vote because it would weaken his majority but Johnson did even though it does. Credit where it's due.

@danielbsmith @Stonekettle "THIS is the week where Donald Trump will be presidential."

Uh, no. No credit. This is the third attempt. They knew this stuff months ago, but refused to do the right thing then.

Doing it now just highlights how bad the optics have to get for them to maintain the barest level of decorum in the chamber.

@TBBW1 @Stonekettle As I said, McCarthy would never have done it. Mike Johnson only became Speaker on October 25, 2023 and the immediate concern was keeping the government running.

I don't care for Johnson but he nonetheless brought this up for a vote and now Santos is gone. Thus I say the GOP did the right thing (expel Santos) even if it was for the wrong reason (better optics for the next election).

Have they regrown their spines? No. They are still the party of Trump. But it's something.
