@LiberalLibrarian His argument seems to be "it was my duty as COS to interfere in state election results, and therefore I'm not subject to state law and should be immune from any prosecution. And I was involved in all aspects of the process, except any parts you think were illegal - nobody told me about those."

@holon42 It's the way of the world.

Frankly, even if he's sentenced to prison (and he definitely could be, given the sheer number of cases), I can easily see him stringing out the appeals for the remainder of his lifespan.

@holon42 They're already trying it, plainly. But it won't delay the trial. Appeals will consume years, assuming he's convicted.

@holon42 @LiberalLibrarian This is clearly aimed at grounding an appeal (and propagandizing to Foxworld). But it's hard to imagine any appeals court saying "yes, only having 6+ months to prepare for a case - which you already knew was coming for months before that - means you couldn't even hope for a fair trial, case dismissed!"

@LiberalLibrarian Well, Gonzo says his mother died two years before he was born.

As George Burns replied, "Coming from you, that seems believable."

That doesn't mean of course that there's nothing to watch in the hearing. But it does mean the judge is going to follow the law, not the political needs of the Trump campaign... and that Meadows would need to have a VERY strong, legitimate case to prevail.

I can't help but notice that as the media plays up the hearing on Meadows's demand to remove his case to federal court (on the grounds that overthrowing GA's election results was part of his job as WH COS), most reports are carefully avoiding any reference to the judge, other than as "a federal judge."

Is that because they know saying he's an Obama appointee and not an R stooge will undercut the drama?

@LiberalLibrarian The Red Sox sometimes use yellow uniforms in recent seasons. And they actually have a particularly good record while wearing them.

@sanau @Razdawg22 My objection was that he continued the fight to the convention, long after he had been mathematically eliminated. There could have been unity far earlier.

@MidnightRider I agree it's wildly unlikely he's nominated. And I'm skeptical he has any national future, even later. He's just an awful campaigner, and he's already trashed his "big winner" image.

@MidnightRider And DeSantis doesn't stop there. He's hinted at a right to conduct full scale military operations in Mexico... plus of course his boast at the debate that he'd gun down migrants at the border.

The constant smug appropriations of Judaic cultural and religious tradition by these deranged ultra-right maniacal bigots sickens and infuriates me more than I can really express.

@MidnightRider He doesn't answer questions, of course. He operates in his own closed bubble where he only engages with those like him.

@MidnightRider They don't consider that a bad thing. An empire of "Christian" fascism is their ultimate fantasy.

Look at DeSantis chafing to invade Mexico.

In addition to the general obscenity of Carlson's worship of brutal dictators and his grotesque claim that they somehow epitomize Christian values, don't miss the rest of his hateful dog-whistle here: his barely concealed claim that American policymakers conspire against Christianity, e.g. are all controlled by "THE JEWS!" And "nobody wants to say it" of course = "Jews control the media."
