Just unsubscribed from my cable TV service. This will be the first time in over 50 years that I have lived in a household without cable.
I'm curious, do you still have cable (or satellite) television in your home?

@tgraph52 an antenna is not really an option here (in a valley). Years ago I tried it, but signal strength was poor. I won't bother investigating the option now.
Internet streaming will be our replacement.

@RandallTT I bought the lowest cost Roku device for $19.99. There are no ongoing costs. The PBS membership is $5/mo but I get that for only a few months, then cancel.

@RandallTT I also have an antenna that I taped to the window. Cost maybe $15 a decade ago. With it I watch the broadcast channels.

@RandallTT
I once lived in a small town with no broadcast TV. NONE

The cable company was so ruthless that I turned off cable TV and haven't turned it back on since. UGLY!

@RandallTT I'm not sure I understand your question. I have internet, and therefore I have TV services available and pay for 4 or 5 channels and will get Netflix for a month fairly soon plus youtube. Moreover, I have TV antennas on all.. er 5 of my tvs. But I haven't had 'cable' for years.

@RandallTT Still have it but working up the courage to dump it soon.

@cjcrew I had been procrastinating about leaving for a long time. I finally got the push when the new owner of our service provider required a hardware upgrade (with an additional $10 monthly rental fee).

@RandallTT I’m actually only using it for the internet access at this point, but one of our customers at work has an ISP service
and I’m planning on going with that and dumping Comcast completely. I just get tired thinking about packing up the equipment and then trying to get an address where I can send it because they don’t provide packing materials and it usually takes three tries and at least one 35 minute wait to get a human so you can ask a question that isn’t in the FAQ.

@cjcrew I hear you on those points. The pain and time of trying to get through to a real person (and then listening to their sales pitch).
Fortunately our company doesn't want their old TV equipment back. They said just take it to an electronics recycling center. So that makes it much easier.

@RandallTT Comcast sometimes wants the equipment back, sometimes doesn’t. Depends on whether it’s too old to be recycled back to another customer. Everything is done for Comcast’s financial benefit.

@RandallTT We also don’t have a UPS office closer than 45 minutes away around here so I have to bully them into having the equipment picked up because their closest office is in Peoria which is an hour and a half drive and my car is a piece of crap. I hold my breath when I drive further than 10 minutes from home.
