So, the other day my kid got jumped - tooted about it.

Turns out, it's a little worse... while getting beat one of the other kids pulled my kid's pants down and shot photos/video of their naked ass.

My kid found out upon returning to school yesterday where the photos/video were being circulated throughout school, during school hours, via text message.

Spoke to school, was assured it would be handled. Never had a situation like this before, what's a reasonable expectation for school action?

For anyone that was following...

School called with an update. All those involved suspended, notes in perm record. The SRO opened some sort of investigation into the student that took the original photos/vids and seized the phone as part of the investigation. I also received a call from SRO (independently) and was notified that the PD is investigating.

My first time through this (hopefully only), but looks like they took it seriously.

@PrivacyL0st

Wow. Bullying, Assault, Sexual Assault, sharing nudes of minors.

Expulsion, possible criminal charges.

@PrivacyL0st Expulsion for the kids who laid their hands on your kid. Any other kid who has circulated the photo should get suspended.None of that should be tolerated, ever!

@JGNWYRK Short answer is yes.

There are police officers attached to each school in the district - they call them school resource officers, but they are no different than any other cop in town - just assigned to the school.

When I spoke with the school yesterday they said the matter would be referred to the SRO and they would coordinate a response and appropriate way forward.

@PrivacyL0st @JGNWYRK

I would go to the police station.
If the SRO was gonna do something, they would have already. That is a clear case of sexual assault on a minor, among other things! The SRO should have been involved from the first report.
Like I said, go to the station. The SRO is failing if those kids aren't already expelled and brought up on charges! None of that is ok.

@PrivacyL0st that's beyond terrible. I'm not a litigious type but being assured it would be handled is not the same as actually doing something about it. If you don't get some immediate and serious consideration from the school, you may want to consider consulting an attorney.

@PrivacyL0st How awful! Be sure to contact the principal on the regular. Parents that do so get better results. Principals will usually take the phones and separately talk to the students involved to try to find out exactly who did what and then dish out disciplinary actions. The one who took and disseminated the video should get the harshest punishment. In my area, it would be "alternative school" which means they're taken out of regular classes and teachers send assignments to them there.

@PrivacyL0st

School won't tell you shit. They pull the whole "have to protect" bullshit. Get the cops involved. You are much more likely to see an adequate resolution and get information along the way.

@Irishroze @PrivacyL0st What she said ^ - file charges - tell the Principal you've done so.

@PrivacyL0st Oh my god, I'm so sorry they went through that! Honestly, I'd be getting the police involved.

@PrivacyL0st Retired SRO here. That means thenpolice are conducting a criminal investigation. The school should also have discipline to make sure what occurred on their campus has a school penalty, make sure they don’t just dump it on the police as its a school problem too. You may also be contacted by Social Services as this is also a Child Abuse issue.
