NPR host stuns White House flack with shutdown question: ‘Is the wall worth people getting killed’ in plane crash?
White House spokesperson Mercedes Schlapp seemed to be caught off guard on Thursday when she was asked if Americans potentially dying in a plane crash due to the government shutdown was worth the effort to fund President Donald Trump’s border wall.

I have admired her skill since the political maneuvering that was required to pass the ACA. Was it my dream act? Of course not. But it was the best compromise at the time, and a helluva lot better than the nothing we had before. I followed the entire process with keen interest, as a cancer survivor who wanted protection for my pre-existing condition. She successfully herded cats to pull it off.

She is a strong leader and the right person for Speaker.

@th3j35t3r

She's the boss, a master politician. He's just a conman grifter - out of his league.

@Evvie that's bizarre. I have ordered from them quite a few times and never once had a problem. I have received the shipment a day or 2 after I ordered, always intact and in good shape. But UPS people around here are pretty nice.

That is emotionally abusive.

One thing is important to remember: ultimately, a person's decision to live or to commit suicide is on them, NOT you. Their decision to use that threat to control you is on them.

Your decision to stay or leave is yours, not theirs.

The other important measurement is how deep the actual water is. So once I knew how far down the water is, I used the weighted string again and played it out until it hit bottom. I put another knot at the top of the well, hauled the weight out, and measured the string.

This gave me the depth of the well and a way to measure the water in the well (at that place the well did not produce as much water as I would have liked, so water measurements helped me track available water.

@mushrj

At my last place I opened up the well and dropped a weight on a string down the hole. I listened for when the weight hit the water and stopped letting the weight down. I raised and lowered the weight a couple times, listening for it hitting the water, to be sure. Then I put a knot in the string at the top of the well. I hauled the weight up and measured the string from knot to weight

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall... think of it, always.

@Stonekettle nice shot. That’s how it looked when I was out there. I chickened out and came in. It’s pretty cold out tonight.

Thanks for sharing.

Got to see the full moon and part of the eclipse. Nice clear sky here tonight. But it is too cold to stay outside and watch the whole thing.

Aptly named a blood moon. It is pretty red.

@Qbae

It is a very good day to stay home and be comfy. ❄️🌬❄️

@WeThePeople

Thank you for taking one for the team. I just cannot bring myself to ruin this peaceful snow day by watching him. We are snug in our home today while it is snowing, watching old movies.

@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @SteppinRazor

Yes. Could be many things. The timing is very coincidental, though. It is a story to keep an eye on, for sure.
