Went to bed last night feeling crushed under the weight of so much mom-guilt. Mom-guilt about stuff I cannot control but feel like I should be able to. 😔

She looked back at me. “So you just sit here all day and listen to this?”

“Among other things.”

“Sure, but how do you not want to smash things?”

My good madam, who says I don’t?!

A patient’s relative approached me today asking for some help with an issue they encountered in another department. While I was getting her the right contact information, her eyes kept cutting to the patient call terminal, telemetry monitors, and pneumatic tube station which all alarm in a maddening syncopation nonstop all day. Indeed it’s also joined by bed alarms, chair alarms, the dying strains of a rolling workstation, pagers, phones, voceras, overhead 🔊 codes, yelling patients, etc.

It’s been a day. Work was a lot. Fought to get husband transferred into a room with his wife after they were stabilized from a motor vehicle collision. Then there was the ‘roid-raging femur fx patient who found super human strength to get his night shift nurse in a choke hold. He finally broke down about 20 hours later after realizing what he had done. Made a bet with the big male nurse he had today that he’ll behave while he has a big male nurse—but when he doesn’t… 😬 MMA Fighter.

😳Nurses are mad that non-nurse, nursing support personnel BOUGHT the nurses week fundraiser shirt… that benefits the nursing institute. They are also miffed the hospital gave nursing support staff the coffee mugs that are a nurse’s week gift.

🙃Seriously? We’re mad that nursing care partners are getting recognized too, because the hospital doesn’t care about/budget for the Health Unit Coordinators or CNA appreciation weeks?

Fairly consistent gaspy coughing coming from kiddo’s room tonight. Worried she has a sinus infection on top of the #allergies and #asthma. 😮‍💨 I gave her some puffs of her inhaler which has worked almost instantly to quiet the cough. Except now she’s so quiet I need to creep in the doorway to make sure she’s breathing, because I’m anxiety-riddled.

Not the 6yo telling on her father for skipping little side words or sound effects in her bedtime story. 😅

Father-in-law in India suffering from heat exhaustion (temps in his area have been at 40 C for the last week or more.) Now my mom texts to say my aunt is in the hospital with hyponatremia. 🥺

Chennai Delicacy restaurant set up shop in the hospital cafeteria today. The chef says, “I will make it not too spicy for you.”

“Sir, my husband is Indian.”

“Okay, no problem. I bring the heat.”

Just got word that my Father-in-law in India is unwell. I don’t know the extent of the illness, but I know that he is heading, somehow, to my husband’s aunt’s village house. I’m at work, freaking out because I know my husband is spiraling, waiting for word from his Aunt.
